Kaje Harper | 17377 comments For January, we're going to do something a little different. NO, NOT HERE. This is just the info ;)

I will post three pictures, in different threads, numbered 1, 2 and 3

For each picture, we will write only drabbles this month.

What is a drabble? It's a bit of fiction (or poetry or description) that has exactly 100 words, no more and no less.

It's a challenge, but also a chance to write short and not worry that the story may take too much time. We'll try it out this month, just for fun. When you write, please put the picture number at the top of the post - that way we won't mix up comments and fiction. Feel free to comment as you wish (preferably not in exactly 100 words though, so we don't get confused ;)

Eg: If this were the chosen picture...

You might write "Drabble 1:"

How long can a day get? How bright can the sun be? I feel his gaze now, on the back of my neck.

Not cool, not cool, not cool! But so hot.

The air isn't stirring, but I swear the scent of his cologne is drifting around me. So damn young, and so good-looking. So intense he could bore a hole in solid rock with his eyes. Those eyes. Dark as mahogany, with a glow deep in them when he looks at me.

In a moment, I'll have to turn and tell him no. Or yes.

In one more moment.

.

A story in 100 words.

The picture threads will go up tomorrow.

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments I love drabbling and am very much looking forward to this. =)

Kaje Harper | 17377 comments Great - I hope we can have fun, and make it a shorter thing that might invite more people to join in. (I love drabbles too, although short is not my best talent.)

Jay Clark (jaydclark) | 488 comments Both photo prompts look fun. And the 100 word flash fiction makes branching out less intimidating. I will give the f/f prompt a shot, once I give it some thought.

Kaje Harper | 17377 comments Short is fun - it sets limits so the thing doesn't take over (as you know from the adult group.) I look forward to seeing what you do, but we do have all month for these.

Jay Clark (jaydclark) | 488 comments This is something that's good for the writer as well as the reader. Being concise can also be fun, and the fun is in making every word count.

I gave prompt #3 my first efforts. It's where the muse led me.

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments I tend to have more ambitious hopes than I can bear out to my own satisfaction in long-form; with drabbling, starting out knowing I have to compact the story, I am usually much happier with the results. (Er, not to set the bar of expectation too high for whatever I may wind up posting this month . . . )

Kaje Harper | 17377 comments There is some value to knowing it won't try to become a novel :)

Jay Clark (jaydclark) | 488 comments Thanks for your comments on #3, the muse finally got me for #2. I may do another take on each, but I like these two, so far.

Kaje Harper | 17377 comments I'm going to try later, after I'm done with a formatting thing that's making me irritable (so I don't write grouchy drabbles.) I like your efforts a lot :)
