Any other topics you’d like to discuss? Your overall opinion of the story?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments My recent reading has not been all that great and this little novella was just about perfect.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I really loved this story. As a side note, I am so glad we read all the other books before we started this series. It gives us a really good background into not only Lucy but the secondary characters too.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1205 comments I'm glad I read this novella today. It was just the right kind of reading for me: I'd just come off a string of mediocre (at best) freebies and needed to read complete sentences and correct words :-)

Karen, I was thinking the exact same thing. I looked at the reviews for this book and those that read the earlier books rated this one higher. Those that hadn’t, assigned it a mediocre rating. It makes a difference.

This little gem packed a punch.

Melissa (melissasd) | 676 comments I can see that, Jonetta. Lucy brings up a lot from here kidnapping and if you haven't read the other books you'll be lost. I love how this case came together and I'm excited to read the rest of the series. The author is still publishing books in this series as well. Are we still planning on reading the Max Revere series between Lucy #12 & 13 (or 12.5)?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Anyone who didn't read the early books and just planned to start the Lucy Kincaid Series missed the depth that reading the other books give this character. We got to rejoice that Lucy came through her ordeal and will survive as a whole person.

I agree, Anita. Ie affects your perceptions of the characters (Lucy and Patrick).

Robin (robinmy) | 2466 comments Novellas are notorious for being too short to let the reader get to know the characters. When a novella is part of a series, it don't seem to have that problem. We already know the characters and don't have to question some of their actions.

I'm glad we read the previous books in the series so we were familiar with Lucy and Patrick.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 109 comments I chose not to re-read this novella so my participation with the discussion was very minimal, unfortunately. It's been too long for specifics for me. With that said, I remember enjoying the novella but felt it wasn't significant in the grand scheme of things. I'm not sure it made an impact in the upcoming series. I did think it was a positive for the relationship between Patrick and Lucy though. At first I wished there had been a bit of romance but as I don't feel novellas make for an authentic romance I was ultimately Ok with the lack of it.

Thank you Jonetta for putting together the questions for the discussion. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

Thanks, Christina!

What we’ve discovered is that this novella bridged the earlier Lucy with the one going forward. If you didn’t read the earlier books, I’m sure this didn’t feel important. I took a step back and looked at it as if I’d never met these characters before and can see how it doesn’t feel like much in terms of character definition.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments I think this novella was necessary as a bridge for the readers. We knew that Lucy suffered an unspeakable assault and here we see she survived and is dealing with it. It sets up the next series with Lucy as a whole character, battered but not beaten.

It got so complicated I didn’t trust my memory.
