SOLVED. An adult fantasy book where a nun kills a man with a pencil, and the protagonist has a homosexual encounter backstage at a theatre. Spoilers ahead. [s]

I read this book in the late 90s, so it is definitely pre 99, I can rememeber a few specific points:
That the protagonist has a sexual encounter at a theater
A man is killed by a nun, stabbed with a pen or pencil
The novel ends with the protagonist on a balcony with a woman
And I'm pretty sure it involved a bridge being sabotaged, and some sort of dolls being a token of sorts. Please help!
