Awesome! As most of you know, The Hobbit and LOTR was my book-obsession as an early reader (I read the whole series more than ten times before I was thirteen). So I fully support that goal!

I too am going to read GoTs this year, Melissa!

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Everyonehas great goals!

I hope the goals are going well so far, and that you all make your personal goals. :)

Kirsten Feldman (goodreadscomkirsten_feldman) My goal this year is two-fold: to beat my 100 books read last year and to finalize and put out my third contemporary YA novel. Good luck with your goals, everyone!

Hello,
My goal is to read Cervantes' Don Quixote. I was reading a biography of someone who read it about 50 times during his lifetime, never tiring of it ..
Also, Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun (considered by many the best science fantasy book ever). Tried reading it last year, but found it really difficult (but great, at the same time).
And more.

But you could read a book like War and Peace that's really long and meaty - but brilliant (it's, actually, quick reading). If you really enjoy a book, doesn't matter how long it takes (or how many books you read, being my point!)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Well said, Ed!

message 63: by Kate (new)

Kate Wrath | 33 comments Ah, yes. I'm definitely there with you on picking up some more of the classics. I kind of let that area of reading fall off once I was completely done with school, but I have realized this past year how much I missed it. Last year I read a few new-to-me classic authors and it was probably the best thing I did reading-wise. So this year, I'm going to fit in as many classics as I can. First on the list-- Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls. And there will probably be a lot of Stephen Crane in there, because last year I discovered that I love that guy! Other than that, reading goals are simply to read as much as possible, because, let's face it, my life is pretty booked up. I'm not going to flog myself for not hitting a certain number or anything. Reading is supposed to be fun, right?

Writing goals: Write like a demon. Working toward releasing two more books in my dystopian series in a bam-one-two kinda maneuver this summer. And there's those pesky fantasy novels that I keep saying I'm going to edit.

Sleeping goals: (I'm adding this one to the thread because I think it's important.) I'm going to get some sleep this year. *slams fist on table* So there.

Hahaaa Kate! I love sleep! I especially love long weekend naps! It recharges my batteries for the week! ;)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Great goals, Kate... Especially the sleeping goal!

Awesome goals :) Are your stories short stories or longer ones? Just take them one day at a time and I'm sure you'll reach your goals!

message 70: by Paige (new)

Paige Yin (paigeyin) | 38 comments Writing goal, I hope to finally start writing on my story, starting is always hard, though I've already a scene or two in mind waiting for development.

Reading goal wise... well just planned on getting a few on my TBR pile done, especially a few I've bought but not touched yet, just found them back the beginning of the year when I was doing some rearrangement of my room, so they takes up the priority - that and the Bloody Monday manga series.

Life goal: get a new freaking job so I can have more time to myself, and so I can take up a language lesson - the plan to do so has been pushed back for 2 years...

All the best to the rest about achieving your goal love!

Hahaha, I LOVE your life goal, I really hope you can achieve it! I had that same life goal about 4.5 years ago, and I managed to switch jobs and find one that had a way better work/life balance. That's when I finally managed to find the time to start writing seriously. A year and a half later I was quitting that job to write fulltime, so achieving life goals can be life-CHANGING sometimes! Good luck!

My stories are usually about 30 chapters, each chapter around 7,000 characters or so. Thanks! :)

Thank you David, that sounds really encouraging. <3 Taking the time to find a new job right now, it feels tough, but reading this just makes me feel like I should keep going until I find something I want. :) Thank you.
