At the beginning of the novel she has been involved in a mysterious boating accident that has left her face marred and no longer perfect. Though her plastic surgeon husband vows to fix her face, she still commits suicide. The husband remains obsessed with her even after her death; calling the new wife by her name in the throes of passion on their honeymoon - yikes

The daughter of his new wife is very I secure about her small chest as she is in high school and kids are cruel. New husband/step dad creepily convinces her to get a boob job after having her wear "prosthetics" at a pool party as a way to try and coax her into letting him make her into an exact copy of his late wife.
