This is the next book in the series for me, but it won't be available for a couple weeks. I'm moving on to Captain Vorpatril's Alliance, as that is available and seems to be a little off the main story flow.

Just finished. This was pretty good. We got to see Miles in a situation where he instinctively almost falls back to Admiral Naismith mode, but remembers he's an Imperial Auditor now, so he has to restrain himself. Miles has grown up!

(view spoiler)

Just finished.

I really liked it but it was a bit of a return to the space adventure type featuring young!Miles with action and humour and even a hearty helping of scary moments. But it seemed to have no deep and thought provoking moments like the more recent books in the series.

I had not forgotten Cetaganda's plot points but I do remember finding them confusing at times when I read that book (to the point where I had to stop and think about what LMB was blabbering about with Hauts and Ghems and Star Creches and whatnot). And out of all the books, Cetaganda was the only one I've disliked and the over the top scifi aspects of the Cetagandans is what irked me. I found them implausibly advanced compared to the other societies once again.

Joe Santoro | 261 comments This was my favorite one in quite a while... we get Miles in 'Admiral Naismith' mode AND solving a mystery in the same book, which is great.

Too easy? Miles takes another near fatal injury, and blunders into TWO different traps, and that was too easy? Tough crowd!

If LMB wants me to care about Ekaterin, she needs to not skip the part of the book where she does awesome stuff... having her stand off to the side and be the little voice on Miles' shoulder is pretty OK (keeps her out of the way), but the scene at the end that could have made her awesome was just completely glossed over.

I get it, this is Miles' POV, and he didn't see it, but too bad!

Definitely makes me more exciting to read the next one... which I was already looking forward to, since Ivan seems to be the star.

And it's the one book in the series my local library actually has!

Yeah, it's really strange considering that two books and a novella have been dedicated to Ekaterin's POV, but she feels like the least tangible character in the whole series. Less so even than Elli.

Lee at ReadWriteWish (leeatreadwritewish) | 70 comments Oh, I love Ekaterin. Of course, it could be that I adore Harriet Vane and they're so similar.

I just realised how many women in Miles's life have 'E' names!
