Title: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Author: Mark Twain Genre: Picaresque Fiction Rating: 10/10
Why I decided to read this book?
I decided to read this book because of the fascinating black and white cover. When I first saw this book the picture of a boy sketched on the cover was quite appealing and when I saw it was by the quite famous Mark Twain I thought why not?.
Why I liked the book? and my favourite quote and why?
I liked the book because of the variety of unique things featured in it such as a note from the author speaking about the character’s speech and how they weren’t trying to copy Huckleberry Finn but it was just how they spoke. I also liked the happy/sad ending that just made me wish the book wasn’t finished. My favourite quote from the book was “Oh, I don't know. But he's got to have it. All the nobility does.”. I really liked this quote because it really showed character and brought out the fact that Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer were actually quite young.
Something the book made me think differently about?
The book made me think differently about the old days when slaves in America were legal and the right thing to do was steal someone’s freedom and how far humanity has come from those days. The book made me wonder why people thought difference in appearance meant difference in being.
A character or setting in this book that was interesting and why?
A character that was interesting to me was ‘Ole Finn’. This was because he would treat Huckleberry Finn really badly and he didn’t seem to have any money. ‘Ole Finn’ would constantly abuse his son and always seemed to be drinking. In the last few pages of the book Jim says that ‘Ole Finn’ might have been the dead man near the start of the book and this made me wonder what happened to him.
