I get a newsletter from Shelf Awareness and they always have a quiz. I'm going to post some of them - for FUN!!

Can You Guess the Novels Based on Their Protagonists?

I got 10/26.

Daniel Hanson-Brown (dozerpup711) | 2717 comments 12/26 I recognized more of the characters, but couldn’t think of from where.

Do little girls still play with paper dolls? I loved Betsy McCall paper dolls when I was a kid.

I saw this cute paper doll page HERE.

AND there is a BIG difference between UK English and American English.

JoAnne wrote: "English is hard!!"

actually, English is easy. Maybe it's hard if you really want to be perfect, but speaking from an European point of view, when your aim is just to be able to communicate, I don't think it's a hard language.

First of all, it uses letters most of Europe is used too, and unlike with French or Welsh, you also pronounce most of them. And unlike with Polish, you don't feel the need to introduce at least 7 c 's and z's in every word. there are no articles, so you can't gender your household items wrong and in comparison to some other languages (I'm looking to you, Russian) the grammer is rather simple.

I think the end-game language to learn would be something where both, the grammar and the writing is completly different to what you know, like, Chinese or Farsi.

The only reason I'm making this many mistakes with English is because I'm lazy as f*** and I never was a good student. Same reason for why English is my only second language.

and that's a good one, because when there are so many different words for the same thing, it's more likely for me to remember one of them :D

I pronounced “chasm” with a soft “ch” until high school. And recently, a friend pronounced “brazier” like “brassiere”. Language is interesting.

We (being from Texas) pronounced brazier - like bray zee er - only real fast because Dairy Queen had brazier grills - cooking over an open fire.

I love the TV show in the CW. Can't wait for it to come back! If you have HBOMAX, you can watch the first season there too!

mhm. let's do this and see if I can get negative-points as well haha

6 out of 12. Actually, since it was about words not the use of grammar I thought I would do slightly better... I loved this quiz! It was very interesting, I liked a lot that the answers all had an explanation with them

I had a hard time with that one because I would use a different term than they did.

look what I've found

https://mindfulmission.earth/en/calcu...

but I'm not sure if it'll work in the US. It's a CO2 footprint calculator, it's based on Austrian data, but it should work for everyone.

mine is better than I thought it would be (3,3 t - average in Austria is 10,5 t) but still not good enough - 5 times too high.

I have one for this list - it's urban fantasy with mystery, though: Iron & Velvet by Alexis Hall
