May-June 2020 Books

Hi Everyone. We'd like to announce our next book to read between May 10th and June 21st!

The main books will be Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teaching of Plants By Robin Wall Kimmerer. A book about plants and botany as seen through native American traditions- encouraging us to consider the ways our lives weave with the natural world.

Our alternative book (this will often be a fiction choice, or something more lighthearted or shorter) will be The Salt Path by Raynor Winn- a memoir about a couple who embark on a 630 mile walk after becoming homeless and a cancer diagnosis.

We'd love to know if you're planning on reading one and which one you choose!

Wonderful! I'm excited to re-read Braiding Sweetgrass and I've heard great things about The Salt Path, which seems to be all over booktube these days.

Now I wanna read both :D I am definitely reading Braiding Sweetgrass, though.

We've left 6 weeks so there's enough time to try and source the book(s) etc. during these difficult times, did also wonder if anyone is a speedy reader with free time on their hands then could try and even read both! :-0
I might consider it, will see how I get on with Braiding Sweetgrass :)

For me, the trick is audio books :D It allows me to listen to books when I don't have time to sit down and read.

Hold on a minute Anne...there's a thing called Booktube???? What is it and have I been loving under a rock (well sort of, I live by the sea in Mombasa) to not have heard of it??

It's thriving and very diverse (in terms of people and content). It's pretty fantastic.

I found an audiobook copy of Braiding Sweet grass at my e-library and I'm making a braided rag rug at the minute, so to listen to one while I do the other is great

I wouldn't even know where to begin. There are so many people with so many different tastes in books. I often just search for reviews for specific books or readathons that I've heard about .

I finished the alternative book, The Salt Path last night, and I loved it. Great pick! I can't wait to chat with people about it.

I'm currently audiobooking it and loving it so far!
