3 stars
I am going to start the review off with a quote that I found fun and spot on when it comes to dog thinking.
" The next thing I knew we were in the Porsche, Bernie at the wheel, me riding shotgun. The sun was low in the sky, big and orange, and we were headed right into it. Bernie took his shades from behind the visor and put them on.
"Chet! You do that every time."
Do What? The barking? That was me?
"They're just sunglasses, for God's sake."
Sure, just sunglasses, but I didn't like when he wore them, couldn't help it."
Bernie has tickets to the circus and going to take his Son Charlie who loves Elephants. The circus elephant Peanut and his trainer are missing. Bernie and his sidekick Chet are hired by Popo the Clown to find them. They are also working a divorce case and Bernie is dealing with his ex wife's soon to be husband.
A lot going in the fast paced story. I did find myself lost in couple of spots on what was going on. Overall I am still enjoying Chet the dog being the narrator and the humor it brings. I also liked the fact I did not have it figured out until the end, I like books that keep me guessing on who, what and why.

annapi | 5505 comments I'm reading this right now! I'm about 75% done, and will try to binge the rest of the series but I don't know if I can do it. Funny thing is, my husband has really been into this too, and he's now on book 5, the first time he's ahead of me in any reading!

Robin P | 5741 comments I love this series mostly because I discovered it on audiobook. I don't think I could have made it sound so funny in my own head but Jeff Frangione is perfect as Chet. I have listened to everyone and looking forward to a new one coming out this year.

Karin | 9210 comments I have enjoyed this entire series and hope that he writes more. My son LOVES it--all 5 stars for him and he is not a big reader. Now his latest series he first heard on audiobook with me (but is reading in print) are the Fox and O'Hare books which I read earlier this spring. He likes that sort of humour.

Robin P | 5741 comments He has a kid-level series too about Birdie and Bowser, set in Louisiana. Weird on audio because Birdie sounds so much like Bernie. And the dog is basically the same delightful character.

Yes, and had my son been younger, we'd have borrowed the kid ones. We learned of this series when he bought me one of the later ones in a hard back edition for Christmas at a discount variety store (for those where they have them, it was at Ocean State Job Lot) back when he was in high school.
