I'm going with American Gods by Neil Gaiman

message 2: by Shar (new)

Shar A Dance with Dragons by George RR Martin. I'm going to try and have this finished by the time the new season of Game of Thrones starts.

Kylie Dragonfly in Amber ... Diana Gabaldon ... Book two in the Outlander/Cross Stitch series ...

Kylie Since I'd cheated and was already in this book when the challenge started, I finished it this evening ... Lots of "Aha" moments and "That did not just happen" comments ... My husband is watching the show with me but says he doubts he'll read the books - so was happily letting me explain my theories, tell him some of the spoilers and then discuss his general thoughts based on the 8 episodes screened ...

Had I had a copy of Voyager handy I would have started it immediately ... A friend hooked me up with her digital copy but my kindle didn't read it and the iPad wasn't charged ... So tomorrow I think I'll end up buying the paperback ... I do love the kindle but I always end up buying the books I really enjoy twice - once on there and then again in hard copy ;)

Off topic! It's 2.30 am ... I very much enjoyed the twists and turns and politics of this book ... The 956 pages could have easily kept going (I guess that's why there are so many in the series) but her cliffhanger was perfect ... The last few chapters were just wonderful at giving the reader enough unravelling while bundling up a whole new set of mysteries and worries ...

Go on ... I dare you to start the series ... And challenge you not to swoon over Jamie Fraser (and not just because of the ridiculously handsome Sam Heughan on screen) ...

Kieren | 74 comments That's a good challenge to cross off. All the books I have chosen so far have been around 400 pages. Will need to check out outlander though. Not sure if I can read the series though- I'm still struggling with game of thrones lol.

message 6: by Kylie (new)

Kylie It's less complicated than GoT ... It took me 7 months on maternity leave to get through all the books that are released ...

While I enjoy the different narrators for chapters in GoT, it does make following the story far more complicated as so much is going on ...

Outlander and Dragonfly are Claire's POV and while at times I needed to remind myself which guy is on which guy's side, it's a far less complicated read :)

Apparently I like complicated today ...

Valery | 22 comments American Gods is really that long? I read it a couple years ago and I wouldn't have thought it was from my memory of it...

message 8: by Terri (new)

Terri Kleinberg | 18 comments I'm going with the Stone of Tears by Terry Goodkind for this, which could double as the TV series if needed. I'm also reading Dragonfly in Amber which would qualify for both as well.

Valery | 22 comments Just finished The Book Thief! Didn't actually know it was that long, since I was reading on my Kindle. :P

Kieren | 74 comments how was it? i just read one of his other books!

message 11: by Kylie (new)

Kylie I hope you enjoyed Book Thief ... I thought it was fantastic! Clever storytelling :)

message 12: by Valery (new)

Valery | 22 comments I did enjoy it, although it took quite a while for me to really get used to the bizarre narrative style.

message 13: by Shar (new)

Shar I finished Gone Girl last night. There was so much hype about the ending I had to read it to see what was going on. I do agree, it was a disappointing ending. Thankfully it was a quick ready because those 560 pages would have gone slowly!

message 14: by BrigitRose (new)

BrigitRose Kleinberg | 1 comments I finished Dragon-fly in Amber by Diana Gabldon last week. I'm really enjoying this series, but I'm going to wait a couple of months before the next one. They are really long, fun but long.

message 15: by Terri (new)

Terri Kleinberg | 18 comments Finally I got signed back into Goodreads in my 'own' skin. Dragon-Fly in Amber by Diana Gabldon is my Over 500 page book. I also finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn in April which is over 500 pages.
