finding a fantasy set like Elenium read decades ago..

Some decades ago i read a four book set much like David Eddings Elenium, I have been looking for some time to firstly jog memory as to the author and a title to work off.. am pretty sure the the main character was not unlike Sparhawk too..

And these day have read elenium often enough to add to difficulty recalling details that long ago..
Though I keep thinking the name Robert was part of the author's name
any idea's would be appreciated.
