Lyssa | 66 comments #47 The Lightning Thief The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan Saw the movie first, and wow, was this different. If I'd read this first, I'd have been very disappointed with the movie. 3/5

Mary (mccanniff) | 46 comments YES! Movie and book bear almost no resemblance to each other. They change things even more in the second movie - just saying. Also, Nashville never shows up in the book; movie totally ruined my road trip surprise for my Jackson-crazed 12 year old. And why can't Annabeth be a blond?

Mary (mccanniff) | 46 comments True enough; the book builds up the relationship through five books. They're quick, fun reads, and my 12-year old LOVES them all. Plus a new series starts this fall - centered on Norse gods.

Lyssa | 66 comments #48 Darkly Dreaming Dexter Darkly Dreaming Dexter (Dexter, #1) by Jeff Lindsay Shorter than I thought it would be, and wraps up quickly for the amount of build up. I only saw a few episodes of the show- may have to go back and revisit that. 3/5

Lyssa | 66 comments #49Clariel Clariel (Abhorsen, #4) by Garth Nix My daughter was awesome enough to go to a reading by Garth Nix and get me a signed copy of Clariel. Love the trilogy, loved revisiting the world and honestly don't remember enough about Chlorr from book 2 to really make this relate. If I'd read this first, I'd have my doubts about the series. Clariel is the epitome of self centered teenager making bad choices about the best way to accomplish good things. I think I'll just go re-read the first three. 3/5

Lyssa | 66 comments #50 Grave Peril Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3) by Jim Butcher Re-read. I forgot how early some characters are introduced. Now I have to wait for the bf to finish the next book so I can read that one!

#51 If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won't) by Betty White If You Ask Me A *really* fast read - picked it up for a lazy afternoon, and zipped right thru. Short anecdotes of her life sprinkled through with lots of pictures. 3/5

Lyssa | 66 comments #52 Assassin's Apprentice Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb Re reading this series so I can kind of remember what's happened before I start Fool's Assassin. 4/5

Lyssa | 66 comments #53 Year of Wonders Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks While not a happy topic, I enjoyed this book. Only parts that seemed off were the ending and epilogue. 3.5/5

Lyssa | 66 comments #54 Archangel's Enigma Archangel's Enigma (Guild Hunter, #8) by Nalini Singh Yay, guilty pleasure series! Got it yesterday and finished it this morning. While the storylines are fairly predictable - hero gets paired up with heroine and they fall in lusty love - I just like seeing how they get there. Also, I like the world she's created with secular angels and vampires co-existing. 4/5

Lyssa | 66 comments #55 Running with Scissors Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs Also disturbing that someone has to go thru this kind of childhood, but not nearly as depressing as Glass Castle - probably because Burroughs uses a very different tone for his writing. 3/5

Lyssa | 66 comments #56 Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales Haven't read King in a while. Love how he can be so dang creepy without resorting to gore. 4/5

#57 Royal Assassin A little slower than the first, but moves things along for Fitz. 4/5

Lyssa | 66 comments #58 Assassin's Quest Assassin's Quest (Farseer Trilogy, #3) by Robin Hobb Holy moly, it's taken forever to finish this book! That's what happens when you can only read for 30 minutes per day. :/ Good thing I like Hobb or I would have given up on it a long time ago. 4/5

Lyssa | 66 comments Sooo.... not gonna make the challenge number this year, and next year is looking like a light reading-for-fun kind of year since I'll be starting my Master's program. Sigh.

#60 Heidegger's Glasses Heidegger's Glasses by Thaisa Frank 2.5/ 5
