Probably the second or third book in the series, the company is owned by her best friend whose husband was killed on the way to their wedding... which is a whole other book in itself.

The main female character works as a secretary/receptionist/admin assistant for the company, always dresses in baggy clothes, her and the guy always bickered like an old married couple before they got together, her mother is CRAZY and mean,


at the very end of the book the female character steps in front of a bullet meant for the guy and she bleeds out due to some chronic disorder the male character didn’t know she had.

Author promised he would get his HEA later in the series...

I feel like his name was Sean/Shawn/Seth/Shane... something starting with an S and a single syllable?
