I am curious to see how Dickens carries out the theme of "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" with the story - so far , it seems like the best of times was that Dr. Manette was found alive and out of prison and was reunited with his daughter. The worst of times could be that Charles Darnay was arrested and tried for being a spy.
Dickens also contrasts the moral goodness of Darnay, who renounces his aristocratic family for their lack of compassion for the peasants, and the self loathing Sydney Carton, the alcoholic lawyer who got Darnay aquitted as kind of a joke, because he said he looked like him and how did they know who was the traitor.

I think the beginning of this makes much more sense to me than the beginning of Part 1. That was a relief.

I like Miss Pross and I love how she fusses over Lucie. I love how Lucie seems to be so full of patience and love for her father and those around her. She does seem like the ideal in spirit. (Side note: An ex-boyfriend many, many years ago once compared me to Lucie... I am not much like her, but I could see how he thought that was quite a compliment! She does seem sweet, honest and compassionate. He compared himself to Carton- Ha!)

Darnay seems like he has things together. Carton needs some encouragement in life. Will he get this from Lucie? I have not felt that she has exhibited any real feelings to anyone but her father, so far.
