Well, I can't say I love the relentlessly oppressive atmosphere and the way Dickens exaggerates the seamy side of life, but with all the characters and twists & turns in the plot, I can see how this would have been a popular story to be sold in installments.

There is a beautiful movie- which is true to the original script. The atmosphere is very genuine, though the movie is in Black and White

I just rented the black and white movie - did not watch it yet, though. Do your friends call you Vijay? I have a friend named Vijay.

I will have to check out the movie! I'd love to see it.
I will have to check out the movie! I'd love to see it.I think Chapters 4-6 Started making more sense and bringing together some parts of the story. The entire "Recalled to Life" thing was such a mysterious term and I was glad when they made mention that it was supposed to be, because honestly, I was starting to feel really perplexed!
I wish Lucy's background and how she grew up was explained a little better to me. I know her mother died, but I can not remember they saying exactly how old she was. I feel like I am missing parts of Lucy's background. I know she is said to be a 2 dimensional character in the book, though the story revolves around her as an ideal of the perfect woman, but I hate not knowing more about her early life. I feel like we were spoiled with too much information on Molly's early life from Wives and Daughters- and Lucy is the opposite.
Yes, Lucie's character seemed kind of flat to me, in fact, I think the most interesting character by far was Sydney Carton. He actually had a more realistic personality than either Lucie or Charles Darney.

yes my name is VIJAY. glad you watched the movie. I felt the movie was more faithful to the novel. of course other subplots are there which cannot be brought into the movie. the flavour of the novel is well brought out.

I need to see this movie. My usual movie companion is my sister who absolutely refuses to watch black and white movies. So I had to content myself with the TV series from 1989. The TV series was good, but I think it did not do justice to the rather powerful ending.

I loved the older black and white movie. It is actually going to be on Turner Classic Movies tonight at 8:00!
