This might be interesting fro those who didn't like this book. I just read an interview on Paris Review where Cusk defines this book as "false" compared for example to her first or the following one. She says "I had written a mental book. I’d tried to think of a narrative or story. It hadn’t come out of my insides. So then I understood. The next book I wrote, The Country Life (1997), that was a true book." I recommend the whole interview, out now on Spring 2020
