Saedii is such an interesting character. She's evil yes, but I feel like in the future she might end up helping the squad. I'm glad that Zila has longer chapters in this compared to the first book. It might be just me but I feel like this takes place in a completely separate place than Aurora Rising. I’m liking the characters so far and for some reason I really like Auri. (hide spoiler)]

I was so invested in the first book and when I started reading this one I didn’t feel as connected in the first part. Scarlet has me on edge to find out what’s going to happen. (view spoiler)[Poor baby Zila, although I'm glad we finally got more backstory on her 😭 It's interesting that her personality seems to be the result of PTSD, earlier I assumed it was due to something like high functioning ASD since that's by far the most common explanation I tend to see for characters with high IQ and low EQ like her.

Why do I get the feeling that Ty is going to run into Ra'haam!Cat soon and have an even bigger crisis? I reckon she's gonna be there with the GIA agents. (hide spoiler)]

I'm still not 100% sold on Aurora and Kal as a couple, I don't dislike the pairing or anything but I dunno, I read too much fae-centric fantasy last year so now anything resembling mating bonds just doesn't interest me any more. The training montage thing works to give them more time to grow together as a couple but still, I'm just not really feeling it.

If I had to try to pinpoint the issue then I guess... It's that their relationship has been too smooth? Apart from Aurora briefly hesitating about the 'pull' earlier and Kal briefly being afraid that she would choose saving the world over him, there's basically been zero tension between the two of them, they're cute but they're not... Interesting? That sounds bad but I guess that's the best way I can describe my issue. (hide spoiler)]

I agree though, I was pretty annoyed at the squad's reaction and particularly Scarlett. It felt like she was using him a scapegoat. It was annoying that none of them could empathize at all with why Kal kept it a secret.

(view spoiler)[Wow, this book is off to a great start! I loved all the action that happened at the beginning of the book. I also really liked how the authors put in a section at the beginning reminding me what happened in the first book, because tbh I forgot a lot of it. It definitely is really sad though that Cat died in the first book because she was probably my favorite character and I already miss her and I feel bad for Tyler. I also found that it was cool how when the crew received their gifts, that eventually they would somehow help them one way or another, like when Kal was saved from the bullet shot by the cigar case. I also feel like because Zila was given earrings that they must have something important to do with the story, I just don't know what. (hide spoiler)]
