Meh. Writer's block is kinda just the author thinking they are stuck...kinda...i guess.

message 152: by [deleted user] (new)

I think the "writer's block doesn't exist" theory is almost legitimate, but I like blaming my problems on other things, so... XD

You don't get writer's block?"

I refuse to acknowledge writer's block.

Not a theory. A fact.

I apologize. A fact.

Hope I guess that makes sense. We just blame out problems on writers block. For me, writer's block is when I'm having doubts on my stories or something.

message 157: by [deleted user] (new)

haha im curious, how does the no writer's block 'fact' work?

message 158: by Niki (new)

Niki It's just...there is no writer's block. If you aren't writing, it's because you don't want to.

I don't agree. I mean, it's true that "writers block" is just an excuse not to write most of the time. But sometimes, there truly are no ideas for a story because it absolutely has no juice or potential. The idea was not meant for a novel, or is just really stupid, or something. Even if you desperately want to write it so, so badly and you really want more ideas for it and you're trying and you really, really want to write it. I speak from experience, about a specific story I tried writing once.

That's happened with a lot of my stories. In one of them, I was on chapter 13, and I couldn't get past it for the life of me. I figured out that I had just taken the wrong turn in the story, so I restarted the chapter and I was fine. But I ended up discontinuing the story, because it was crapola.

I disagree, because I think EVERY story has potential. You could be writing the dumbest thing in the world, but there is always a way to reshape the plot/characters to make it better. There's always something to edit and/or something to add, so there is no writer's block.

Hope Niki wrote: "It's just...there is no writer's block. If you aren't writing, it's because you don't want to."

Well, I don't think it means you don't want to write, as I said before, I think it means you are having doubts about the way you write or just the idea in general.

If you're writing a story about Bob defeating the evil doughnuts from mars, *coughcough wink wink coughcough*, there is no way you can continue the story, no matter how much you want to.

Oh yes you could. Maybe Bob is a really interesting character and you think the story has potential, but you're like, "Hey, maybe evil doughnuts wasn't the best idea. Maybe they should be evil werewolves instead!" … or something like that. You see what I mean?

message 165: by Hope (new)

Hope I agree with that idea, although I think that now the story about evil werewolves is a completely different story from the one about evil doughnuts, so that isn't really the case. I do see what you meant though... Do you know what I mean? Haha!

message 166: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 338 comments Well yeah, it was a bit of an exaggeration. Like I highly doubt anyone would go write a story about evil doughnuts and expect it to be taken seriously in the first place, but you see what my point is … ? ;D

Well, I know, I know what you meant, I just meant that if you change your story a ton, it isn't the same story. If you change the main characters, the main idea, or anything like that. But yes, I do see your point. I don't even know why I'm dragging this on...

But some stories are so bad that even if you want to keep writing them, you can't because they have no potential. *coughcoughTulip'sCozyTeacoughcough*

message 173: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 338 comments Oh, shut up. That story does too have potential! I liked it! And I still believe that every story has potential. I mean, why would you want to even start writing a story unless something compelled you to write it? There's always a reason why you wrote a story, so it's just a matter of finding the best parts/aspects of a story and developing the story around those parts.

I love that story! I haven't read all the chapters yet but I'm so excited too! It has potential!

message 176: by Jeana (new)

Jeana (tessamay07) Well being a NaNoWriMo winner for two years now this is the most important information I have come across. Just write! Do not care if it sounds funny, stupid or ridiculously lame, if the spelling is horrible etc. Just write. By doing this your ideas get on the paper in a quicker way. Once you have finished your entire story only then should you edit. By editing as you go it takes away precious writing time for those ideas to flow on paper. Writing with your eyes closed is a good exercise if you are a grammer and spelling fanatic. Do whatever makes you comfortable!
