ABANDONED. Illustrated child's book in landscape format - probably fiction, little girl wanders around woods with fathers voice and sound of crickets

"I randomly grabbed this book off a public school library shelf when I was in 3rd grade. This was 22ish years ago and the book seemed old then, but I have no idea when it was published or if my perception was correct or not.

The book was beautifully illustrated and looked like impressionist artwork. It was all set outdoors, in the woods. I think it was about a little girl walking in the woods and exploring with her dad - her dad’s presence was strong, either he was guiding her or his voice was just there (as if he’d passed away?)

I seem to remember a lot of focus on nature sounds and either cicadas or katydids or crickets (or all?) repeatedly mentioned.

I can remember the image of the back of the girls head. She is wearing a sun hat.

It was a hardcover book, printed in landscape orientation.

I want to say it was very imagery-heavy and didn’t contain any dialogue."
