Maggie, that's a good start but it's mandatory to add genre and plot details to the topic header. This will help the moderators and searchers in this very large group. We will close threads that don't adhere to this requirement.
Click the small "edit" link after the header to update it. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, there's a "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)
- Note: you read this book around 1998 and the book seemed old then.

The book was beautifully illustrated and looked like impressionist artwork. It was all set outdoors, in the woods. I think it was about a little girl walking in the woods and exploring with her dad - her dad’s presence was strong, either he was guiding her or his voice was just there (as if he’d passed away?)
I seem to remember a lot of focus on nature sounds and either cicadas or katydids or crickets (or all?) repeatedly mentioned.
I can remember the image of the back of the girls head. She is wearing a sun hat.
It was a hardcover book, printed in landscape orientation.
I want to say it was very imagery-heavy and didn’t contain any dialogue."
