Lauren C | 81 comments Hi, everyone,

I’m glad to announce that Albany Public Library is going to be starting up three new online book groups! We’ll have a fiction book discussion, a non-fiction book discussion, and a mystery book to talk about each month. Every book will be available for download on our Hoopla service, and most of them will be available on Overdrive as well.

Because our buildings are currently closed, the discussion will take place over Google Meet-- you will be able to participate over the phone or through a video chat! Just register through our online calendar, and we'll email you with more information about how to join in.

Our May mystery book will be The Sea of Lost Girls by Carol Goodman. We’ll be discussing it on Monday, May 4, at 7 pm and you can sign up here. Download it through Hoopla or Overdrive.

Our May nonfiction book will be The Good Neighbor, the Life and Work of Fred Rogers by Maxwell King. We’ll be discussing it on Tuesday, May 12, at 7 pm and you can sign up here. Download it through Hoopla or Overdrive.

Our May fiction book will be Afterlife by Julia Alvarez. We’ll be discussing it on Wed, May 27, at 7 pm and you can sign up here. Download it through Hoopla or Overdrive.

We hope you’ll join us for one or more of these discussions!

You too, Susan! I'm having ups and downs-- it seems like when the weather is good, everything is a lot easier. Cross your fingers for this rainy week being ok :(

I have two Class of 2020 kids in my house, so lots of stress here.

The nice thing about rainy days is that it is easy to keep the 6 foot distance when you go outside!

Thanks for all the work the library is doing. I (really) know how hard it is to work from home.

Hi Joanna,
Thanks for asking! The Mystery Book Club is going to be reading Fallen Mountains by Kimi Cunningham, and discussing in on June 1.
You can download it from Hoopla or Overdrive, and register for the discussion here.

And while I'm at it, our next Fiction book is Afterlife by Julia Alvarez (register here for our discussion on May 27). And our next Nonfiction title will be discussed on June 9, it's The Woman Who Smashed Codes by Jason Fagone.

Ack, I didn't look at the date of this message, and just finished listening to Fallen Mountains. I enjoyed it, so I suppose that is not the worst thing in the world. The discussion of the frackers, although minor, mirrored what I read in a NYT Magazine story a couple of years ago.

On to the next one, which looks like is Searching for Sylvie Lee ?

Hi Susan-- oh no! I'm sorry you missed the discussion but I'm glad that you enjoyed the book!
The next mystery book club pick is indeed Searching for Sylvie Lee, and you can register here!
I'll put up a post this week with the dates and titles for all three of our July book clubs.
