Johanna | 31 comments It's the first idea that comes in my mind when I read the subject of this week. I saw the movies and like it, but a lot of fans was so disappointed by the last movie that I decided to read the book even if I didn't participate in this challenge.
I also think about Eragon, but didn't suceed to enter in the book so I'll go with the Hobbit =)

misplacedselchie | 347 comments It's been so long since I read The Hobbit that the BotFA didn't bother me. Even though I did know they made up stuff. lol. I'm sure you'll enjoy it :)

Taylor (amateursuperhero) | 66 comments I finished The Hobbit about a month ago and really liked it a lot! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Luisa (deborahluisa) I love this book! I read years ago, in school and loved so much! The movies was waaaay too long for this book, and there is a lot there isn't in the books. I hope you enjoy this book! It is one of my favorities!! <3

A friend of mine told me the BotFA movie has much information and events from The Silmarillion and from Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-Earth. I don't know for sure, because i didn't read this too. :/

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments This was my first thought for week 3, but I just finished it in December so I think I'm going to go for The Book Thief instead.

I just finished reading The Silmarillion and it made me smile seeing things about the White Council and driving out Sauron which crops up in the films.

Daisie (daisie4100) This was my choice for week three as well just because I just got done reading it. The book is so much more intricate than the movie can ever hope to achieve. I do like the movies because I am a sucker for fantasy action flicks but the books are still better.
This is one of my favorite books. I have read it so many times I can't even count. The spell that the author weaves brings you into the story. It is amazing how well words can convey what they are unable to capture through the movie.

Renee (Larimel) (goodreadscomLarimel) | 62 comments I saw the movie this week and I just might choose this book for week 3 if I can find it or afford to buy it.

I never thought I'd be interested in this genre of work but I took a step out of my comfort zone when I went to see the movie and I actually like it. I might even go read and watch the Lord of the Rings too.

You should read the book! I read it a few years ago and can't remember much, but the movies bring memories of the scenes. I read Lord of the Rings too, not that long ago. I still should watch those movies.. I've like completely lost myself in Tolkien's world. But it doesn't matter, it's a good place. :)

Oh it does feel like a good place to be. Its been a while since I didn't want to leave the cinema after watching a movie.

Is The Hobbit a trilogy by the way?

No The Hobbit is only one book. The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy. These books are fantastic. I have found that many people don't like them because there is a lot of "singing" of very long songs. If you find that its deterring you from reading the book, just skip the songs. You really don't miss out on much that you can't pick up from the surrounding content.

Thanks Daisie.

Renee (Larimel) (goodreadscomLarimel) | 62 comments Yayy! I just bought The Hobbit and I'm ready for week three.

Erika Quinonez | 18 comments This was my choice for week 3 as well :) I'm 3/4ths of the way through and already I love it! It's definitely different than the movies. The movies added some things that aren't in the book. So I feel like I cheated because I know more than I would have if had read The Hobbit before watching the movie. I really can't wait to finish this but I'll also be sad when I reach the end.

Lorraine | 57 comments I'm reading this for my week 3 book. I'm not very far in yet but I'm really enjoying it!

Jasmine (pikakejazz) I joined the group late so I am a little out-of-order currently, but I had started this book forever ago and thought I would try to pick it up again for this challenge. Super ready to finally get this one off of my TRB list!! Haven't seen the last Hobbit movie yet either, so don't spoil it for me!! *just kidding, it's kinda obvious how it ends because of the LOTR series, amiright?*

Hi Jasmine! Welcome to the group. I haven't finished reading it yet but I went and saw the movie (amazing by the way) but I'm still looking forward to the end of the book. Mostly to find out what is different in the book.

Labeba Salameh (labebabooks) | 47 comments I was so disappointed when I finished this one because I discovered this amazing world so late

Sophie (sawphie) Don't worry Labeba, if you like Tolkien's world, there are a few other books to read! For me the perfect order to ease yourself in this world is reading The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and then The Silmarillion, which is a little bit more difficult to get into.

Jasmine (pikakejazz) So I cheated and watched the last movie for date night before I could finish off the last couple chapters. I liked the book ok, but I LOVED the movies so the book was a little disappointing for me. I am kinda surprised how much the movie writers changed/elaborated. Anyone else feeling the same?? And can someone tell me if Legolas or Tauriel were even mentioned in the book? I ended up skimming a little to finish but I don't think I read about them anywhere!

My full review here.

Sophie (sawphie) No indeed Legolas and Tauriel were added by the movie makers. I liked some things they added (like more information about Gandalf and the Necromancer), but the "love story" was unnecessary in my opinion.

I'm a bit angry when they think they need to add a love story to make the film better, when it is absolutely not the case. It is like Aragorn and Arwen in the Lord of the Rings, their story is quickly told in an appendix at the end of the book and doesn't take as much place as in the movie.

I felt a bit disappointed as well Jasmine. I watched the movies first (which was probably a bad idea) before I read the book. There were so many changed in the movie. But remember that the story was written for children so a lot of the elaborations and additions that were added to the movie was so it could appeal to an older audience.

I liked that they added the details on the Necromancer and Gandalf too Sophie and I liked the romance bit.
