Wow that's crazy. Yeah I'd be pissed, too! She probably only told close friends or colleagues in confidence.
Hey Lora! I have read The Cuckoo's Calling, and I really enjoyed it. It is much, much different than The Casual Vacancy. I thought it was a lot better, although I had a little bit of a difficult time getting into the book. However, I really, really enjoyed it overall.
I really enjoyed The Cuckoo's Calling. Very compelling mystery and great characters. But can I just point out that it's Robert Galbraith, not Richard.
I really enjoyed The Cuckoo's Calling as well. And if you like it, the new one - The Silkworm - is even better. Rowling writes mysteries really well. Who would have thought?
I thought the book was ok overall, but I think it took some time to get into it and the characters as well. There are many very detailed descriptions in it that I personally didn't think were nessecary, but in the end I still enjoyed it quite a bit because it gets better the more you read (: I especially liked Robin and Lula ^^
I didn't even realize she released a sequel to it! I have high hopes for this. I tried reading The Casual Vacancy, but it was just too much profanity. I literally think my head exploded reading some of those words and knowing she wrote them. Talk about making sure people know she isn't just a children's author!
I liked this book. It never dragged and felt intresting thru whole book. Story was simple enough and there was no pile of bodies or unbeliavable changes in story. I liked this book more than The Silkworm.
I'm reading this right now as a "side read" and thoroughly enjoying it. I like it much better than Casual Vacancy--I just couldn't get into that one and didn't feel anything for most of the characters.
Oh Lora - I was exactly the same! She dropped the C-Bomb and my poor brain just couldn't reconcile it. I'll go back to it eventually, but, but ... :)I'm reading this one for this week as well - and I'm really looking forward to it.
I love JK Rowling. I haven't read any of her books other than Harry Potter though. Perhaps this year after I complete the challenge. How did you like it?
This will be my "a book from an author you love that you haven't read yet" selection. Really looking forward to it! :D
I read this last year and it was just ok for me. It took me and while to get into the story. Jana I agree with you about the descriptions. A lot of them were totally unnecessary in the story. I ended up giving the book to a friend because I just don't see myself ever reading it again. I'm doing a complete works challenge so I will read The Silkworm this year. I'm hoping since everyone says its better that I enjoy it more than I did this one.
I just started it because it was at the library and Red Rising was not. I am not very far, but I am enjoying it. It has the same ease of reading as Harry Potter but with less of the horrible language you find in Casual Vacancy. So, so far so good
I really liked it so I'm debating if I should continue with The Silkworm for the mystery week challenge, too. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), there are a lot of contenders... Decisions, decisions...
I enjoyed The Cuckoo Calling much better than Casual Vacancy. I have Silkworm on my list for books I own, but haven't read. Looking forward to it.
I have this to read as well... or I should say finish, because I get to about half-way through and then something else comes along.
I am reading this for this week as well. My sister recommended it when I asked her for a good Mystery or Thriller to read for this week. So far I am enjoying it.
Megan wrote: "I have this to read as well... or I should say finish, because I get to about half-way through and then something else comes along."I know what you mean. I started this in March and just finished it today. This is not to say that I didn't enjoy the book, because I did. It was more that it would only hold my interest for so long and then I would be off reading another book forgetting I was reading this one.
I am thinking I will give The Silkworm a try and but maybe not till the end of this challenge.
