What did you think of the second half of How To Be a Good Creature? What story (or stories) did you enjoy the most?

Okay, I really enjoyed this book. It's definitely my favorite non-fiction/memoir that I've read in a while. Sy's connection to all of these animals in her life is so beautiful. And wow, I felt so bad when reading about how much she struggled after Christopher and Tess's deaths. I saw The Good Good Pig is available for me on Libby, so I'm definitely gonna check that one out. I think this time around, my favorite chapter was about Sally and all the messes she got into.

I also really appreciated Sy including a list of books for further reading at the end. I'm going to look into those as well.

Tabbie Holmes I agree on wanting to read more of Sy Montgomery’s works. I bawled like a baby after reading those last few chapters. Especially the ones about losing Sally and Tess. My heart truly ached with hers.

My dog woke me up randomly the other morning at 3 am by pawing my arm - I was not even flustered. I took him outside to the restroom (which he didn’t have to use) and then wandered around the house trying to figure out what he wanted. He ended up grabbing his toy and taking off wanting to play. I thought about how I will not always have these moments and I felt no loss related to lack of sleep. I was only appreciative of the love I felt for my sweet dog and how one day I will be missing his presence.

I love how all the stories helped my heart grow even more with appreciation and love for animals. I truly look forward to more reads by her in the future!

I felt the same way when I first read this book a year or two ago. I feel that way now. I own the audiobook too...and she reads it herself with such emotion. You can hear the tears in her voice. I wanna read more of books too. I highly recommend The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration Into the Wonder of Consciousness. I read it first and connected with her love and awe for all animals. It is beautiful. I cried a lot in that one too.
