Good question. Shortly, there will be a category for each of the challenges - if you join us later the threads will already be here, yay!

As you read books from the various categories, add a new topic under that category for your title. Start a new post and select the appropriate folder.

Discuss as you see fit.

There are no rigid rules for how this group should work. If you read only one book from the challenge that's fine. You're still welcome to play along and chime in when you feel like it.

The folders for each challenge are finished! Some are abbreviated a bit, as they only allow 32 characters in the name of the folder. Click on "photos" to see the full list.

Dawn (dawnoftheread) Where are these folders?

Very good question! When you want to add a book, follow these steps:

1. Click on "new" at the right end of the Discussion Board bar.

2. Click on "folder" to see the drop down menu of folder choices.

Once people start populating them with their books, they'll start to show up on the board.

Cathrin "A book with antonyms in the title" - can someone maybe explain what that means?

message 6: by Cathrin (new)

Cathrin And another question: can one book be counted für several categories?

Antonyms are words that are the opposite of one another. Here's a page with a lot of examples:

http://examples.yourdictionary.com/ex...

I think if people want to count a book for more than one category that's fine. Everybody has different schedules and ability to fit in time for reading, so combining is okay. Some of us will probably try to read a different book for each category, but in this group there are no hard and fast rules. I want everyone to have a good time!

Joanna Clevenger (clevengerjo) I can't find the folder for memoir, I'm knocking that off my list first :)

Start a new discussion, then use the drop down menu for folders. "A memoir" is just under "Schoolhouse Shame" in the list. You'll be the first to post in that folder!

Ape Marie | 10 comments I am having difficulties with adding a topic. I am currently reading a memoir and I went to the memoir challenge folder. I clicked on it to open it and clicked on the "+" at the top of the page on the right side. I added my new topic and hit "done". It showed up for a second and when I refreshed the page, my post left the folder and went into the general category again. Not sure why or what I am doing wrong. Please help!!

Thank you :)

Hmmm. What are you using - iPhone, Android, or ?

message 12: by Ape (new)

Ape Marie | 10 comments I have an iPhone 5s. It has been giving me troubles lately but the app has remained the same. Not sure what I'm doing! I can try on my iPad for my next post to see if that helps.

That's exactly what I have, and I just tested a post from my phone and it did the same thing. I think it may just be a deficiency of the app. I have to run to work right now, but I'll follow up on this later.

In the meantime, I moved your other post to the Memoir folder, and I will continue to move other posts as needed.

Cheers!

Ape Marie | 10 comments Okay great! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being dumb about posting haha. I'll see if my other devices are better than my phone.

Thanks for helping!

message 15: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 280 comments Agree, I think it is the app. First time I posted, it went to General. And, it posted twice. I have to post from the desktop to do a new topic. Can only reply on my iPad.

Katelyn (kattanasio) | 8 comments I'm not seeing a folder for a book originally published in another language. Am I just missing it?

Katelyn wrote: "I'm not seeing a folder for a book originally published in another language. Am I just missing it?"

I called that folder "Translated from other language" and it is near the bottom of the list. Goodreads only allows 32 characters for a folder name, so I had to get creative with a few of the categories.

message 18: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Do audio books count? I spend a fair amount of time in my car and listen to audio books almost exclusively. I do make sure they are unabridged as much as possible.

message 19: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnoftheread) Audiobooks totally count!

Cory Lee | 7 comments Can one book count for more than one category?

message 21: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandabookworm) Some members are using one book to count for more than one category, while some are doing one book for each category. It depends on your preference, but you can use one book to check off several categories.

message 22: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 280 comments Cory wrote: "Can one book count for more than one category?"

For this group, there are several doing it one book count for many categories. Other threads, they have a rule that one book per category. Which would average a book a week.

The spirit, I believe, of the challenge is to make you read more, and to have you read things you have not done before....so, you know yourself. You know what you can do, and what would be a challenge for you.

If you are going to double (or triple up, as some books can go for several categories), then make sure you are at least going with the spirit of the challenge, and CHALLENGE yourself. In the end, this is for YOU and for Pleasure. It is not suppose to be the Bataan Death March.

Greetings from your somewhat absentee moderator!

Amanda and Valerie have answered your question perfectly. My intent with this group is for it to be fun and flexible to meet the reading habits of anyone that wants to participate. I don't want anybody to feel like their set up for failure from the outset.

I think a lot of people have really enjoyed reading things that they might not have chosen normally. But make it work for you, and more than anything have fun!

message 26: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) Cory wrote: "Can one book count for multiple categories??"

Totally up to you. Some have a book count for three categories, some have them count for just one. Whatever is the most fun for you :)

message 27: by Darlene (new)

Darlene Vendegna I asked the same question. When I began I was cocky enough to think I wouldn't need to double up, but now, at the halfway point and only about a dozen or so in, I might reconsider.

message 28: by Cory Lee (new)

Cory Lee | 7 comments Yeah. I'm trying to do one book per category. I am 28 in and starting to have difficulty. May have to double up :)

message 29: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) If I don't finish every single one of my 52 books, I won't cry. I've already read more books than I usually do in a year, so now it's just gravy. If there's a few books left at the end of the year, I might finish them in early 2016, just to be done with it all.

Raven (ravenkingsley) | 47 comments What happened to the Classic Romance category part of the discussions? That's missing from the categories list.

message 31: by Kathy (new)

Kathy At the top of the discussions list, hit the all button. It should pop up then. I don't know why they disappear. Maybe it happens when there aren't recent comments.

There has been an ongoing problem with categories disappearing and reappearing. Not sure what the deal is!

Do you mean adding the link for each book? Click on the spot where you'd like the link to go - at the end of the line for each category, for instance.

Once your cursor is where you want it, click "add book/author" and search for your book. You can select either link or cover, depending on what you want to show.

The Hunger Games

or

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins

Let me know if this doesn't answer your question!
