And from the sound of his voice, she could have expected a scolding. He knew about the circus? About Bennett? Lore looked up in surprise. "Father, I - " But she cut herself off, as she had almost started to defend herself. But what could she say? What could she ever do to please her father, to win his approval? And besides, circuses had a reputation for being scandalous...
"My apologies, father." She said softly with a nod of her head. "As you wish." She glanced his way again, wondering if he was going to say something else. Lore had only arrived home two days ago and her father had barely acknowledged her return. It was as if she had never left at all. And to think, Lore thought a year would make some sort of difference...
Seeing that her father had no more words for her, Lore stood and gave him a perfect, practiced curtsy. "Good day, father. I hope to see you this afternoon." She muttered. No normal father/daughter relationship was so cold, so formal...
Lore left his study, biting her lip hard as she struggled with her own demons. She longed to go back, longed to feel the things she had at Cirque de Fantome...
She had to go back. Simple as that.

Viktor ran his hands over his box. That box had everything that he needed to preform the big magic, and he was sure he would be picking it up to move in at any minute. They had had their one night in town and now it was time to move on, or, at least that was how it always went. Occasionally they would stay another night, if the boss thought they were safe, but it was rare.
He usually didn't like the constant running, but he would be glad to be rid of this town. He had a feeling that that demon girl was going to come snooping back if they did stay. That wouldn't be a good thing, if he knew anything about demons.

Presently, she stood in the doorway of Viktor's chambers, slim arms crossed over her chest. "The boss says we're staying here another night." She rolled her eyes. "My God, that man is an imbecile." Anya sighed.

Annalore had been debating whether or not she wanted to go against her fathers word. Night was fallen outside and the circus would open soon, providing it was still in town. She was starting to feel those tugs in her chest. "Why should I waste my time? It's all ridiculous!" She told herself. But then, something startled her, a bird suddenly swooping down to her windowseal.
A large, black raven.
Just like in her dream.
Lore froze. It was as if the creature were looking straight at her, peering into her soul. A moment later it was flying off... And Lore had to follow it. She hurried quietly down the stairs and out the back foot, not even grabbing her cloak to keep herself warm. She couldn't lose the dark creature.
She dashed after it, running down the sidewalks of London despite the strange looks she was getting. Little did she know, it was taking her right to the place she had been forbidden from...

"Oh Anya, can't you use some of your feminine charm to woo him out of staying here for another night. I really had other plans," Vik teased her. It was rare for him to tease, but he had known Anya almost as long as he had known the circus at all.
He reached out and ran his cold fingers along the skin of her cheek, very gently. "Oh Anya, you do look so beautiful this evening." He chuckled. He was sure she would slap his hand away, but he didn't care. He was in no mood for thinking and this was a nice distraction. At least this way he would be kept from running off to murder the boss.

Maddox Quinn, a lion tamer with shaggy blonde hair and a knack for keeping the peace among the performers, stepped up. "Hm, if things don't work out with Anya, maybe you should go find the demon girl I keep hearing about..." He was trying hard not to smile.

The raven eventually led her towards the edge of the forests. Lore knew the circus wasn't too far off, but she felt that all of her questions would be answered if she could just catch this blasted bird. "Wait!" She called out. Lore ran after it until she could see the lightless circus through the trees. For a moment, she forgot all about the raven as she looked at it's majesty...
"Little girls really shouldn't be wondering around so late..." The voice was raspy, dark, and...terrifying. A chill entered the air as Lore looked around, trying to find the source.
"Hello?"
And a black mass dove out of the trees, first as a bird and then as a more human form. Lore let out a scream as it descended on her.

"As for the demon girl, very pretty but so naive. Not to mention she's little more than a baby. While I would love to sink my teeth into her, I don't think she would approve. She's blind and she could never accept something so out of the ordinary and proper. A shame, really. I could give her more than any peasant she may strike a fancy with," Vik laughed again. His laugh always sounded empty and joyless, but he liked to laugh none the less.
The laugh was soon gone, however. He frowned. He could have sworn he heard a scream of some kind. He turned away from the other two and listened, trying to determine where the noise had come from. Surely it wasn't one of the performers, it had come from too far away.

Maddox let out a laugh. "I heard Adair talking last night. I think the girls father is some sort of politician. No wonder she's tightly wound, eh?" He chuckled. "Also heard that - "
But then that scream sounded. His gaze landed on Viktor, who seemed to be listening closely. "You hear that too?" He frowned. "Something's wrong..." Because he could hear his animals starting to make a fuss. Was there a demon around? A tracker? Maddox hurried out of the tent, going to the cages.

Lore's whole world was thrust into darkness. She could feel pain all over, and then there was something deeper. A weight in her chest. A darkness, a negativity hat was drowning her.
And the darkness did something to her. She could feel something inside her start to ignite....
There was a huge burst of white light, a gust of wind going out from the sight of the incident and reaching the circus. The redhead had fallen unconscious... But somehow, she had gotten rid of those dark figures.

It was the girl. The red-head, Lore. She was unconscious on the floor but he had just enough time to see a bright light come from her and chase other beings away. It was odd. If those were demons they had attacked her and she had fought them off. He would have assumed they try and recruit her or something silly like that.
He almost didn't want to touch her for fear of having the same light brought on himself, but he had to brave this. He went to her, knelt, and picked her up slowly from the ground. He carried her back toward the circus tents, nervously chewing at his lower lip. He had no idea what had happened and he was worried that he may be the next target. Sure, he could fight them off for a while, but demons were powerful creatures and he didn't have the white magic to destroy them.

Unless, of course...
Everyone in the circus was buzzing with worried gossip. What was going on? What was that sudden breeze, that light, that strange feeling they had? Finally, the fortune teller stepped forward and with a few simple words, was able to ease everyone's nerves. "No demons here." They were gone?
"Viktor!" Quinn called out, jogging towards the magician who held a redheaded woman in his arms. "Woah, what's this?" His eyes suddenly widened, his face turning white in realization. "Is that the..." The demon girl. "Is she the cause of this? Why is she passed out?" Seeing that he was getting no response, he narrowed his eyes. "Hello! Vik! What's going on?"
Anya marched up to them, assessing the situation with cold eyes. "Ugh...You're always creating new nuisances..." She grumbled, rolling her eyes.

So, when the space for her was made he laid her out on the cot. He called for water, when he got it he used it to sprinkle on her face. He needed her to wake up before the others started their rambling again. Not to mention, he wanted Anya's glaring eyes off of him and he thought that might help.

But the girl was waking up.
Lore felt something cold on her face, like raindrops. The droplets of water tore through her dreamless sleep, bringing her back to the real world. Slowly, her eyes began to open. She coughed, her face pale as visions of black smoke and red eyes flashed through her mind. Blinking a few times, her vision began to focus. And the first thing she saw was him. The magician who had made her fly.
She bolted upright, a decision that she immediately regretted. Lore felt an instant nausea, a dizziness that could not be stopped. Why was everything spinning? Why were there so many strange looking people around her? Why did her head hurt?
Why did she remember such strange things?
"W - What's going on?" Her voice was a bit weak. Was she simply dreaming? Could that explain all of these strange things? Lore swayed a bit, still way too lightheaded. She put a hand to her head, trying to calm it.

He looked at her face, his fingers gliding up and gripping it lightly. He turned her face one way, and then the other, slowly. He was both checking her for injuries and trying to get a feel for her. She was definitely part demon but the other part was a mystery to him. He could not put his finger on it. It was like some kind of emptiness that his mind could not reach. He needed her answers.
But, he let go of her face and he turned his eyes to Anya. "She's not the one who attacked us. We have to find out what's going on. She may as well have saved us so you can do us a favor and keep your mouth closed for once."

"We won't know anything until she speaks." Quinn said suddenly, his confidence calming everyone visibly. "Gossiping among yourselves is going to be no help right now. Please...give 'em some room. The lady's had quite the scare, but I'll inform you of any information we can find out." He nodded. The crowd seemed to respond, slowly thinning out until it was only Anya, Viktor, Quinn, and the demon girl that remained.
Lore had never been more confused in her life, but she did as she was told and laid back down on the cot. She tried her best to listen to what the man said, but it was hard to focus when she was so astonished. His hands on her face honestly didn't help that too much. "I - There was a bird..." She finally managed, though she wasn't sure where the words came from. "I was just following the bird." She said it as thought she were defending herself. Lore suddenly pushed his arm away from her, sitting up once more and placing her feet on the ground. She looked around, cautious gaze taking in the circus and the two other people there with her. "Demons?" She demanded, eyes falling on the magician. "Excuse me? What's going on? What am I doing here?" She shook her head. "There were these dark figures in the forests...and I couldn't breath." And she had never experienced a fiercer pain. "Then everything felt strange and I grew faint... What is going on?"

He took a long, deep breath. "You're part demon yourself, Lore. No, don't freak out. Have you met both of your parents? If not, I think one of them may have been of demon blood. You can't help what you are but, do you remember the light? The light came from you, no doubt about that one thing. I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that."

"Is she all right...?" Quinn wondered aloud, looking worried. He fought the urge to reach out a hand to help her. No doubt more strange people would only freak her out more.
Lore began to shake her head. No...no...No! "This isn't real. It's isn't logical." She rose to her feet, beginning to pace back and force. The action didn't help her pounding skull but she doubted anything would. "Demons do not exist. Magic does not exist. I will not stand here and listen to this nonsense, Sir!" She had stopped pacing, now standing in the center of the tent. Her gaze traveled between the performers before it landed on the magician. "Give me one reason why I should believe you." Her whole life couldn't just be a lie. This was just some scam, a group of traveling conartists trying to trick her out of her wits...
But no matter how hard she tried to convince herself of that, a nagging voice in the back of her mind told her that she had known this truth for a long time.

"You're free to go any time that you like, Lore. No one is keeping you here and no one is doing anything to harm you. We were only trying to help you by disclosing the information that we have. Know that you have people here who can help you, if you feel that you should need help," he looked back toward her and pointed to Quinn.
"This is Quinn, and that there is Anya," he told her, "You may ask for them and you will be allowed into the circus without paying. I'll make sure of that. They'll help you in any way that you can."
"Mr. Preston brought you home in a swoon last night. I think you may have forgotten to take your medication, so I had the nursemaid give you your dosage. You really did look a disaster and upon asking Mr. Preston where he found you, I was quite shocked. I knew that circus was in town but never in my life did I think that any daughter of mine would go to such a disgraceful thing." He shook his head in distaste, as if he had not been in the same place, watching her whole part in the show transpire.
"In any case, I would really prefer you never go to that circus again. Our kind doesn't need to be seen there, especially not in a swoon. I also expect you to apologize to Mr. Preston. A young man such as himself shouldn't have to carry a lady home after she's forgotten her medication."
He pulled his papers back in front of him and picked up his pen. "Do stay away from the circus, Lore," he added for final measure, then he stopped talking, indicating the finish of the conversation.
