And Then There Were None is one of my faves of all time. Got me hooked on Agatha Christie! And my sister keeps telling me to read The Cuckoo's Calling, she says it is excellent. :)

I just finished reading it. Couldn't put it down! Such a fast read, and it really was amazing :)

Can't wait to read them!

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1226 comments I really enjoyed The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1) by Robert Galbraith - very well written, more traditional who-dun-it in the vein of Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle.

This book has been recommended to me. Perhaps it should be moved up on my TBR for a sooner read.

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments i was surprised how much I enjoyed it - it is very character driven, not event driven though - I had requested it from the library the same day her identity was leaked - so I ended up having to wait for it to come in

I loved it too! I was quite surprised because I didn't enjoy Casual Vacancy at all. I supposed this is quite different but I loved the characters here.

Read my first Moving Mountains book - #23 Books About Books - on my list: 84, Charing Cross Road. Turns out that this is a non-fiction book! It is an exchange of letters between a secondhand bookseller in London and a screenwriter in NYC. Loved it! Gave it 4*. Short book so quick read.

Neither did I, Dee. However, it is delightful and more so knowing these were real people exchanging those letters.

message 63: by D.G. (last edited Jan 29, 2015 09:05AM) (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments I've read 4 books from my list. So far there have been 3 books under 3 stars. Hope my average improves soon!

message 64: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments getting ready to start bk 2 - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - picked up an audiobook because I needed something short to finish out the month before starting Feb challenge books

message 65: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments I did the same, Dee. Yesterday, I listened to a couple of short stories. Now I'll put my energies to finishing those two books I've been reading since the start of the month!

message 66: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments i don't know if i'll finish up before Feb - but its suitably entertaining - stephen fry (who does the UK Harry Potter I think) - is hilarious!

how the heck have I never read/listened to this before!

message 67: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments Yes, I listened to that one...it was pretty good!

message 68: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments i'm trying to make a concentrated effort on my classics challenge this year - this is bk 2 of the year (following 1984) - both of which I have to wonder why I avoided them earlier in my life

Both are on my to read list and scare me for some reason so I avoid them. Maybe you will give me the courage to pick them up!

message 70: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments Honestly I grabbed Hitchhiker's because it was in stock at library and I needed a shorter (only 5cd's) to finish out month

message 71: by Ebony (new)

Ebony Taylor | 95 comments I finished reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, as well as a few others in the series. I'm uncertain about this one, I never read it as a child, so I don't have the nostalgia about it that a lot of people do. I just didn't love it. I felt no attachment to any of the characters. Good and bad was too simple, there was no complexity to any of the characters, and I felt that the religious undertones became stronger the more I read, and was kind of off-putting. I gave it 2 stars :/

message 72: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments all of the Chronicles of Narnia are heavily religious - I read as a child and enjoyed, re-reading as an adult, I realized they were all pretty much based on different biblical tales

message 73: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments finished up my second book with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - I liked the beginning and ending, but will admit that my mind wandered a bit in the middle - but I'll probably continue the series down the road

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1226 comments Dee wrote: "all of the Chronicles of Narnia are heavily religious - I read as a child and enjoyed, re-reading as an adult, I realized they were all pretty much based on different biblical tales"

I loved The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as a child and only realized as an adult at university that the book was a biblical allegory. This may be explained by the fact that I'm Jewish and the allusions are New Testament rather than Old, which I am more familiar with.

message 75: by Lahni (new)

Lahni | 660 comments I've been crossing books off my list but forgetting to update here! So far I've finished:
Matched
The 13th Day of Christmas
With All My Soul
Anna and the French Kiss
and One for the Money

Since I listed 24 for this year (2 per month), I am a bit behind. I do have two more already checked out of the library, so here is hoping I get them done this month to keep me on schedule.

In exactly the same position, Bea. AND I haven't even started Lost! Now reading Station Eleven because everyone has raved about it, but then I hoe to get back onto challenge-track.

(8 hours at the cricket tomorrow should give me some reading time, don't you all think? ;) )

1 day, World Cup game between Australia and England. What a way to spend Valentine's Day! Boy, I love my family, LOL.

We were meant to go to a T20 game, but ran out of time. It will be my 8yo's first game, and she is very excited.

Amanda | 380 comments Caught up to being on track, having read 3 books this month.

Had just started trying to get my first book to complete for Lost, only to realize that I have actually read it. Swapped it for another book, so am hoping to catch up on that one and have 2 books completed for Lost by the end of the week!

LOTS of MM books planned for the next 3 months!

Bea, you are doing 24 also ? I keep wondering if I should think about adding to the list if I get through it quickly, but then think of all the other challenges that there are and think "nah!" ;)

wow, awesome work, DG! LOST is usually the one I'd complete in the year, lol -for some reason, it never feels 'urgent' to me ;)

message 94: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments listening to my 3rd book now - The Rosie Project - I like it, but really feel like it has been over-hyped, its good, but not great - i think its the uniqueness of Don's character that sucks everyone in

message 95: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments I finished up my third book - The Rosie Project - IMHO, I think I should have waited for all the hype about the book to die down because while it was good, I didn't love it like other seemed to - honestly Don irked me (I know it was a character thing, but it just irked me)

message 96: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 380 comments Finished book 4, Cloud Atlas, which I managed to get onto this list as well as Lost.

If you want to know what I thought of it, pop over to the Lost thread, I won't bore everyone by posting it twice ;)

message 97: by D.G. (last edited Mar 22, 2015 07:39AM) (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments I didn't realized I hadn't updated this list in a month. Anyhow, I finished my 13th book, which sucked by the way. :)

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

As I originally had decided to read 17 books and I'm almost done (I'm reading two books from the list now) I decided to up it to 25. As an additional hurdle, I'm picking only books that have been on my TBR prior to 2015. Just for kicks, I'm keeping track of how many books I'm reading per year added. No surprisingly, 2014 is ahead!

Added 2012: 3
Added 2013: 3
Added 2014: 7

wow! great work, D.G.

I'm totally getting distracted by Readers Pursuit, lol... and I since I rolled so many romances & non-fiction, I can't seem to fit many of from this challenge :p

Good on you for upping the ante PLUS reading stuff added from previous years!

message 99: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments Now I'm at 14 read: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Books Read per Year Added
2012: 3
2013: 4
2014: 7

I'm not participating in Readers's Pursuit so I'm having time to concentrate on this. Also, I've decided to take it somewhat easy and pick books that are calling out to me instead of those that I've been neglecting for whatever reason.
