Between the fact that i have much less time to myself in these covid days, and that i just hang out with the girls, and feeling generally lazy and not concentrating...
But I chose 'make me cry' - because i really want to read And the Band Played On: Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic
i started this years ago, and it indeed made my cry. I stopped for no good reason and would love to read it again.
Otherwise - I don't really mind which category wins. Comedy, i think we all found out, is really easy category and works for my current weird mood, and music will make me realize my dream to find a autobiography of Dolly Parton - focusing on her youth hopefully

So sorry for my slow response. Nicole is correct. I actually forget how I doled out these extra points, but it was for submitting tags that we used for the game.

Can you clarify "12 pm" -> 12:00 (noon) or 24:00 (midnight)?"
12 noon!

I haven’t physically read anything for weeks, drat it, though..."
Thanks for making me feel better. I just started my PBT title . . .finally.

I have comedy books in my TBR, but there is a reason they are there.
I like my comedy in short doses a half hour show on tv seems about right.

I have a couple titles readily to hand that are both TBR and in my personal collection, but I'd otherwise be gambling on library e-title availability for a lot of that category.

Whichever tag wins, I'm going to need recommendations for...
Comedy books with substance (a great story).
or
Made-me-cry books that are also feel-good stories.
or
Romantic Comedy books that are a cut above the rest (e.g. made for adults, aren't idiotic, and don't follow the same formula).

Gee I think people got more points for submitting tags than we're going to get for reading the books. I only earned 23 points (and dropping) for reading 42 books. I could kick myself for not submitting tags, such as immigration, feminism, revolutionary war, Civil war, Native Americans, or a medical/health related tag for MN (Mayo clinic).

Nancy, it might be because you spend extra points in voting for the monthly tag, as extra points after the first free vote are subtracted from your total.

Oh, I was only talking about the poll ballot challenge. We suggested tags in late Nov/Dec, which is my busiest time of year, so I didn't earn any points (up to 100!) for that. So, I only have myself to blame if I don't like some of the tags.
The Poll Ballot challenge is a zero sum game, so we can't earn any additional points, without someone else losing points. We're all reading a lot more than we did on any challenges last year, and I think a lot more than anyone predicted. If we cared about the points and were sensible, we'd all just stop now, and read whatever we want. But it's a game, and we like playing games, so we keep going for our teams.
We're still all earning regular points, which is a win-win system. Everyone can earn more by reading more, without worrying about state tags. I haven't checked, but I assume I've earned a lot of points on our regular threads, and I rarely use points when voting.

In checking books I need to read for potential Poll Tally Tags, it is astounding the number and genre of books that have been tagged comedy by someone, and even more astounding when multiples do. You probably have more than you think you do, Anita.

I agree. Many of the books on the comedy list were really surprising. Some of the books contain serious (or cynical) social commentary. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is one of the many listed as both comedy and made-me-cry.
