Ann What books are you reading in this category? Do you have recommendations for others of less known authors that you've enjoyed?

Leah | 30 comments This is another prompt that I'll probably check off toward the end, as there are so many.

As for authors I recommend, I love love LOVE Jasper Fforde. He's British and wrote a great series about literary detective Thursday Next. The first in the series is called 'The Eyre Affair'. These books are full of great characters, fun word play, and unique literary devices. All in all, I think I've given this book as a gift about a dozen times. Check 'em out.

Anne (texanne) Finished: The Free by Willy Vlautin

message 4: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (yamich49) | 2 comments Just finished "Born Confused" by Tanuja Desai Hidier. I've been trying to read more books written by women of color and got this one a few days ago. It is an enjoyable young adult book about an Indian-American girl in New Jersey. Had some of the standard YA tropes but was also a great story about a girl learning about and appreciating her culture. This is the first book completed for my challenge!

Jennifer (librarygirl94) | 0 comments I just finished my first book for the year: "Man in the Woods" by Scott Spencer. I'm using it as my book by an author I've never read before.

I found it to be a "meh" book with my favorite part coming within the last few chapters as events in the story were finally being resolved.

With that said, I would not seek out more books by this author or recommend them but I'm grateful to have one book already checked off my list!

Man in the Woods by Scott Spencer

Nikki I just finished reading The Lonesome Young by Lucy Connors. I could have used this novel for several categories but chose this one. It was an interesting version of a Romeo & Juliet based story line.

I love this book!!!

Tatiana | 4 comments I really wanted to read Gayle Forman's books. Therefore, I just read "If I stay" and I loved it :)

message 9: by Guylian (new)

Guylian Just finished "Unterwerfung" (Soumission) by Michel Houellebeco. I am sure that in a few decades this book will be considered a classic.

Krissy (krissystewart) | 79 comments BioShock: Rapture
BioShock Rapture by John Shirley

Since I am doing this challenge with my older brother he had some say in what books we will be reading. This was one of his choices.

message 11: by Erin (new)

Erin (lyteyz) I am not a very fast reader so I am working through this list...in no particular order...but based on what I am currently reading. So I am currently reading The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom and I have never read anything by him before, but I started this a long time ago while at the library waiting on my daughter as she played on the computer. I never checked it out, just put it back on the shelf and have thought about it ever since. So far, its really good!!! Should be finished in another day or two.

message 12: by Alexis (new)

Alexis O (saboknits) | 76 comments I finished Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell earlier this year and was thoroughly engrossed in the story. I love the vignettes and how the theme loosely tied together through all the characters. I would definitely look for other books by Mitchell in the future.

I loved Cloud Atlas, too. A couple of his other books could also fit the challenge. Black Swan Green is a wonderful book with a color in the title. I'm planning to read his book number9dream for the "book with a number in the title" category.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't have a book with a color picked out yet. I'll add Black Swan Green to my list!

Julia (_mj_howard) | 57 comments I read "The Children Act" by Ian McEwan and was not happy with his portrayal of the main character who should have come across as a strong woman but didn't.

message 16: by Belinda (new)

Belinda (belindalt) | 99 comments I started the challenge late so I had to put the books I had already read this year into whatever prompt they would fit. For this one I put my Goodreads giveaway ARC of Sisters of Shiloh by Kathy and Becky Hepinstall.

message 17: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana (pluidenovembre) | 29 comments I read my very first Joan Didion this year, Play It as It Lays. I really enjoyed her writing, I'll definitely check out some of her other books.

message 18: by Jazs (new)

Jazs I'm currently reading The Black Tulip by Alexandre Dumas as I've never read a Dumas before despite knowing about him for years and the summary of this book sounded really interesting to me. Also, I'm half Dutch! :P

message 19: by Angie (new)

Angie (sparkingjoyinreading) | 32 comments I read The Girl on the Train- it was fantastic!

Michelle Johnson (michellecurates) | 85 comments Outlander was amazing!!!

message 21: by Melody (new)

Melody | 208 comments For this challenge, I read Lucky Alan and Other Stories by Jonathan Lethem. I picked this book because I've actually met Jonathan Lethem (he was a professor at my college), but I had never actually read any of his books! Well, now this has been rectified, and I'm glad it has been! Lucky Alan was really entertaining and well written. My favorite stories were "The Dreaming Jaw, The Salivating Ear", which was about a haunted blog, and "Their Back Pages", which is like Survivor meets Lord of the Flies with obscure comic book characters. Honestly, I'm a slightly glad I hadn't read any of his work when I went to him for help on my thesis, because I think I would've been far too intimidated. For anyone who's a fan of Lethem, he gives very good advice and he is very nice. I look forward to reading more of his work.
