Ann What books are you reading in this category? What recommendations do you have?

message 2: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I just finished reading a book called Magnolia by Kristi Cook for this category. It was an easy read that kept my interest the whole way through. It was a sort of reverse Romeo & Juliet kind of story line.

Eleanor and Park is so so SO good! It also fits the "book set in high school" prompt... ;P

Julia (_mj_howard) | 57 comments I have read "Us" by David Nicholls, and it was a touching and comical way to look at a marriage breakdown. I loved Douglas.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I ended up reading Revival by Stephen King for this, since I had to read it for one of my book clubs. I wasn't impressed, but it was a good way to get started.

message 10: by Boo (new)

Boo | 7 comments I completely recommend "Teeth" by Hannah Moskowitz

message 11: by Tris (new)

Tris I just read Landline by Rainbow Rowell. I really enjoyed the story and it was an easy read!

message 12: by Ann (new)

Ann I'd totally recommend Horns. I loved it! It's very weird but in a great way. A murder mystery at its core the plot goes quickly but it is NOT a traditional murder mystery by any means.

message 19: by TheCarmanita (new)

TheCarmanita There are so many YA books with one word titles! It's almost as if every other Young Adult books has a one word title.

Jane (javc) Angela wrote: "i read Fangirl by rainbow rowell . .... i absolutly loved it ! i am defintely going to read all her other books"

I'll be reading Fangirl for the "book set in my hometown" category. Glad to know it's a good read!

message 21: by Jane (new)

Jane (javc) I think I'll read Ruby by Cynthia Bond. It was just announced as the Oprah Book Club 2.0 read, which I usually find kind of blah, but it sounds worth reading to me.

Michelle Johnson (michellecurates) | 85 comments Serena by Ron Rash

Decent...entertaining, for sure. Oddly reminded me of House of Cards.

Your're right! One example:

Shusterman's series are all one-word titles:
UnWholly

message 34: by Jazs (last edited May 30, 2015 07:41PM) (new)

Jazs Turned out when I was looking again back over the books I've already read this year that I've already completed this prompt. Read Tiddas by Anita Heiss. It's an Indigenous Literature novel as the author is an Aboriginal Australian and it's a chicklit kinda book with 3 out of the 5 main female characters identifying as Indigenous women. It explores the concept of family, children, friendship, and careers for women and careers for Indigenous Australians through an Indigenous perspective and I really enjoyed it despite not really being a regular chicklit reader myself. I had read a different book of Heiss' though before reading Tiddas so that, and the interesting sounding summary, was what attracted me to it.

message 35: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I read Limitations by Scott Turow for this prompt.

message 36: by Book Babe (new)

Book Babe I decided to read Coraline for this. It was great but I had already seen Tim Burton's interpretation which I think helped. I guess this one would work for the "book with a name" as well.

message 37: by Alexis (new)

Alexis O (saboknits) | 76 comments I finished Austerlitz, by W.G. Sebald the other day. There were some stunningly beautiful sentences and thoughts in this book. Such a sad story, true I'm sure for so many people of the post WWII era, it left me feeling numb at the end.

message 38: by Mikalina (new)

Mikalina Kopytko | 5 comments I just finished Galapagos written by Kurt Vonnegut. I really liked it so I will definitely read more of his books.

message 39: by Laura (new)

Laura Parker Room by Emma Donoghue

message 40: by Melody (new)

Melody | 208 comments One of my thesis readers once recommended Cosmopolis by Don DeLillo and I figured this prompt would be good motivation to finally get around to it. I'm glad I did because it was as unique and intellectually stimulating as DeLillo's other work I've read. Almost the entire novel takes place in a limousine driving crosstown in Manhattan. The writing style is somewhat experimental and the dialogue is unforgiving, but it's definitely a part of the book's voice.
