Question 1: Overall thoughts?

As you finish the book, what are your overall thoughts? What did you like about it? How was it different from his novels that you’ve read?
If you enjoyed this I highly recommend The Log of the Sea of Cortez from 1940. It is a bit more existential at times but is essentially another travelogue. I had the pleasure of staying in the writers studio where he wrote the book back in March.

I've got the impression most of the book had been invented. The impression I get is that his health was in steep decline and he travelled a bit with his wife and stayed in a few hotels. I felt really underwhelmed by the whole thing and it felt a bit pointless which is a shame because he was a great writer
I remember liking it but also thinking how deceptively simple it was. It is not a book, in my recollection, that was highly visual. I'd call it quiet.
