Ayesha Abdul | 272 comments Hi my name is Ayesha and I have been beta reading and line editing for more than 10 years. My favorite genres are fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and paranormal fiction, but I will read and work on any genre. I will do a free sample beta read or line edit of up to 1500 words for anyone.

All my beta reading comes with the following:

-a sample line edit
-in-line commenting with my knee jerk reactions to your story
-an editorial style letter compiling all my thoughts
-2 revisions
-Unlimited questions!!

Every comment or suggested change I make to your manuscript will have an explanation and suggestions for how to remedy the problem. You will understand why things are not working and why other things are working well with your manuscript. I will comment on what you are doing right just as much as what you may need to change.
For line editing, I will consider your style as an author, the genre, and more to help you make your book sound better.

Check out my website for more information and testimonials from my previous clients.

www.wordcraftedits.com

My rate for beta reading is $1.50 per 1000 words and line editing is quoted after an evaluation of your manuscript. I only take editing work that suits me as an editor so a sample edit is mandatory. Contact me at Ayesha@wordcraftedits.com for details.

"I used Ayesha as one of the beta readers for my novel 'Where I've Not Been Lost.' I am a first-time writer, and her feedback was incredibly detailed full of lots of useful real-time reactions, general summary advice and pinpointed critiques which I am going to find invaluable as I take on the next draft of the book. I would absolutely use her services again.
-Glen Sibley, Where I've Not Been Lost

"Ayesha was so incredibly helpful and you get so much advice for the money that you pay. It is hard to find someone reliable to beta read your work online, and believe me when I say that you will not be disappointed when you hire her to read your work. Communicating with her was very easy and she got my work back to me within little time. Her editing skills and feedback were exactly what I was looking for as a new author who needed lots of suggestions and counsel. I will be seeking out her help again and I sincerely believe that her advice made me a better writer."
-Elizabeth White, author of Something Twisted

"Ayesha was definitely my best beta reader and gave amazing feedback, suggestions, and critiques. Believe it or not, finding a good critique is harder than people might think! I greatly appreciated the time and effort she put into reading this book and giving just enough constructive criticism to help hone the words to finely polished sentences."
-Jason Hein, author of Legacy of Ravenbane

"Ayesha went above and beyond as a Beta Reader for Mind of Vengeance. She provided honest and helpful feedback on everything from copy editing and sentence structures to character arcs and plot progression. I was blown away at how quickly and efficiently she worked – even to the point of requesting more chapters to read. I now realize how blessed I am to have found a Beta Reader like her on my first go around. If you are searching for a great Beta who will go the extra mile, don’t hesitate to nab her!"
-Michaela B. Buchanan, author of Mind of Vengeance

"Ayesha was by far the most detailed beta reader I had the chance of gaining. Her critiques made sense and if I had questions she explained her reasoning thoroughly. She suggested ways I could get the point across in a clearer way and how to tighten up all the loose edges in my text. Never did I feel like she skimmed the text and I always felt like she understood my story. Her editing skills were phenomenal and detailed. I'll be coming back to her for future projects."
-Violet Monroe, author of The Darkest

Daniel (goodreadscomdaniel_robledo) | 24 comments Hey, Ayesha.

I would love to pay you for your services. I have a short story of about 8.5k that I need betaread. The story is about three young men who, after stealing a safe full of money from a criminal boss, flee into the desert, hoping to start new lives somewhere far away. It's literary fiction foremost, but it has a little bit of thriller and the supernatural spiced in. Kinda Stephen King-esque.
would you be interested?

message 11: by David (new)

David Wildman | 13 comments Hi Ayesha, I am looking for a paid beta reader for my novel The Myriad Era, a Sci Fi thriller. 284 pages (73,000 words).

The book is about an aging former rock star with addiction problems that are destroying his marriage. He tries standard psychotherapy but is unable to face the darkness within, so he agrees to a new untested method in which a computer maps his brain in order to get to the root of his trauma. He ends up getting a lot more than he bargained for. It's a story of love, art, creation and the future of music.

I've had my short story The Red River Virus published in The Huffington Post and this is my 4th novel. My first novel The Book of Enemy was blurbed by Chuck Palahniuk as "wildass awesome and amazingly original",

Let me know if you are interested in doing a straight up Beta reading. Your rate is fine, but I won't be needing much line editing. Thanks! David

Ayesha Abdul | 272 comments Just bumping up this post to say I have some openings for September and October still available.

Ayesha Abdul | 272 comments I have one more opening for the end of September and two for October. Accepting any genre except erotica with a 2 week turnaround (under 100k).

message 22: by Tori (new)

Tori | 2 comments I hired three different beta readers for my debut fantasy novel and Ayesha was by far the one who was worth every penny I spent. (And her fee was less than the others!) Her feedback was significantly better and more thorough than the other two. Every issue she pointed out was met with a suggestion on how I could change it or make it better. She also caught so many small errors in punctuation, spelling, and typos that I missed after several rounds of self editing and the other readers just overlooked. I do know that beta readers are not proofreaders but pointing out these small things sure doesn't hurt. I will definitely hire her for my sequel!

message 23: by Ayesha (new)

Ayesha Abdul | 272 comments Thanks so much Tori. I loved your story.

Ayesha Abdul | 272 comments Hi Alegra, I would love to take a look at your fantasy novella. I could turn that around in a day whenever you are ready. Anytime in October would work for me as it isn't very long. I would charge $20 for that because I do have a $20 minimum order. You can email me at aag2474@gmail.com for more information.

Tom Adamson | 10 comments Ayesha is an amazing beta reader and I cannot recommend her enough. Honestly, if you find yourself on this post, you need to know that you're in good hands. Margaret Smith | 1 comments Ayesha is an incredible reader and editor. She took care of my 85k word literary fiction first draft so thoughtfully and with such great insight that I went into my revision process feeling empowered.
Her comments and questions were spot-on, and reflecting on them gave me a very productive energy to channel into my work.
I can't really believe I lucked out so much to find Ayesha. I'm going to work with her again on Draft-2. And on and on whenever she can squeeze me in!

Nitish Sharma | 15 comments I hired Ayesha for beta reading and line editing and I can confidently say she is of the best beta readers I've had. She will thoroughly read through your manuscript and give detailed reactions. She will catch small errors in grammar too. Any issues she identifies in your manuscript will be accompanied by a suggestion to help you fix it. She's great at analyzing plot and writing structure. Her beta reading is honest, well-organized, and aims to make your story the best it can be, and she responds promptly to any questions you have. Don't miss out on hiring her!

message 35: by Bodie (new)

Bodie Plecas | 2 comments Just worked with Ayesha for the first time as a beta reader, and I'm absolutely 100% satisfied. Her comments were on point, insightful and extremely helpful. I would also add they were thorough. Her line editing was excellent catching a multitude of my small errors, and providing some excellent edit suggestions. My work had a bit of an unusual approach in terms of pov and she really grasped what I was trying to do, pointed out where it worked and where it didn't, even offering suggestions on repair. I can say confidently that anyone who hires her will very satisfied.

message 39: by Ron (new)

Ron Sami | 1 comments Ayesha has done an excellent job on two of my books. Her beta reading was extensive, thorough, and very helpful to me. Ayesha accurately and correctly showed me some of the problems of the manuscript. I received a lot of need comments about the characters and the plot and began to understand much better how the reader perceives my books.
Ayesha also edited my books. She made a lot of useful changes to my writing style, which was pretty bad I suppose. As an editor, Ayesha had studied my books deeply and comprehensively. Her comments and suggestions about plot, peacebuilding, characters were smart, honest, and helpful. All in all, I can see that I got a great edit that improved both books significantly, and I'm glad I turned to Ayesha.

Ayesha Abdul | 272 comments One spot open for July and a few for August.

message 42: by Ayesha (new)

Ayesha Abdul | 272 comments Updating my thread to add that I am now opening my calendar for line editing clients. I have been working as an editor for several years but seriously limiting my projects due to time constraints. Now I have decided to open up my schedule and accept more clients for editing. I do specialize in fantasy and my rates are considerably affordable, usually starting around $5 per 1000 words (.005 per 1000 words) and range depending on the complexity of the work. I do charge lower rates than most editors because I try to work with indie authors and I understand the difficulty and cost involved in publishing. While line editing does include corrections for all grammar, punctuation, spelling and other small errors, I do recommend a proofreader after the line editing. Some testimonials about my line editing are included in the above comments. Email me at aag2474@gmail.com for more details.

message 45: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Williams | 11 comments HI Ayesha,

I'm looking for professional beta readers for my cozy mystery with paranormal/fantasy elements. Right now it is too long and I really need some readers to help me parse out the parts that don't work. Please let me know if you're interested.

Blurb:

When Clementine (Clem) Cooper’s long lost Aunt Maple is murdered in the quaint New England town of Misty Cove, Clem is called upon to leave her unsatisfying life behind in DC to organize the funeral.

Staying in the house where the murder took place is not for the faint of heart, but Clem isn’t afraid of much. Unfortunately, when the local police captain, and Aunt Maple’s boyfriend, is arrested for her murder, it becomes clear that Aunt Maple’s spirit is not going to sit by and let it happen. But Clem doesn’t need to be haunted by Maple to be convinced. Her intuition, and her investigative skills tell her that the captain is innocent and Clem is the only one who can prove it.

While Clem has never believed in ghosts, it seems that Aunt Maple wasn’t just any middle-aged woman. She was a gypsy, and a sorcerer to boot. As much as Clem refuses to believe in magic, she can’t help feeling that magic is the only way to find Aunt Maple's killer.

I hired Ayesha to beta read my novel, “Laviro and the Fate of the Universe.”

Her beta report is awesome, and she even did inline comments too!!

Ayesha pointed out so many things! She has such an amazing attention to detail.

I know her report/comments/suggestions will strengthen my novel! 🤩

Ayesha gave me one of the longest and in depth reports I've received.

She’s definitely a favorite out of the 25 betas I’ve hired!!

Ayesha picked up on so many details, and I’m so thankful for her specific suggestions! it's so helpful! 🥰

John Hearon | 5 comments I've just completed my work with Ayesha and found her to be an amazing beta-reader. Her real-time insight and great attention to detail has offered me insights which had yet to surface. Her review notes are broken down by chapter and her inline notes on the manuscript has helped me better understand what the reader is experiencing. As I continue my writer's journey, I would not only use her again, I would also recommend others do as well.
