When Ash sees Carlton Morley for the first time, his past memories begin to crash around him, especially when Morley declares that Lorelai is a dead ringer for his twin sister. Why do you think Morley triggered those memories and Dorian/Dougan didn’t? Any possibility that subconsciously Ash saw Caroline in Lorelai?

I was so surprised by this twist, I didn't know what to think. I did feel bad for Lorelai when Carlton mentioned that she looked like Caroline.

[Charlene]

Yes, this was one more cruelty imposed upon poor Lorelai.

[Anita]

Dorian's memories were beginning to stir and when Morley appears they broke free. Morley was in his past before Newgate. They were brothers in everything but blood. Their bond was deep and strong.

I felt bad for Lorelai when he said she looked like Caroline and that Dorian was going to marry her. Lorelai had no relation to the dead Caroline in personality. It appears that Caroline was totally different person. The boys didn't want her selling herself, but she liked the excitement.

Anita, are you saying the bond between young Dorian and Cutter was deeper than that between him and Dougal? I can certainly see that. Those memories were deeply embedded, too.

Given that Dorian/Ash didn’t go looking for Lorelai, I didn’t believe he was transferring feelings for Caroline to her. I felt bad for her, though, in that moment.

I think that Dorian had strong bonds with both Morley and Dougal, different but equally strong.

I don't think he was in any way replacing Caroline with Lorelai even in his subconscious mind.

I think it was having Dougan and Cutter, his two "brothers" together and the mention of Caroline that actually triggered his memories.

With regard to loving Caroline, it was more of brother/sister type of love because Ash viewed her as an extension of Cutter. His love for Lorelei is deeper.
