Why did The Rook resent being called Ash by Lorelai?

Maybe in his mind, Ash was the young man who she fell in love with and The Rook was an infamous pirate who killed. He didn't feel that he was that person anymore.

I agree with Robin; his thinking like this shows how totally screwed up his thinking was by this time.

The Rook no longer felt like the man he left behind with Lorelai. That man and name represented a loss that he found unbearable. Just hearing the name brought unresolved pain.

I also agree. In his mind, he had killed Ash when he became the Rook. Also, perhaps he wanted her to love him as he was now and not the boy she remembered him to be.
