PIFM - Chat/Banter/Review Your June 2020 Read
Hi, guys! I was looking over what everyone was voting for, and there's a surprising unanimity among us for some of these books. ESP? 🤔
Mandy, how do you get early access to so many of these new books? Jealous!Brenda, I admire how you can keep track of so many series. Do you get the characters and their development mixed up?

Each main character is a unique individual to me. Different genders, ages, appearances, circumstances, locations, supporting characters. Many have become old friends.

Most of them came up as offers on Amazon for 99p and one was a free Amazon First Reads book given to Prime members before the publishing date. I can't wait to read them all but now I am back at work time is limited again!
Well it looks like the two books I'll be reading in June are Cold Fear with 3 votes and Enigma with 2 votes. Hopefully I'll like them.
That sure sounds like a LOT of husbands to me! 😅 Too many of them might lead to a murder, err? Especially since this is a thrillers group. I'm having fun with the book title. Could be a real enigma of who did it. Which could lead to a lot of cold fear feeling in the gut, too.. 😀I'm enjoying the book I'm reading at the moment. It has a lot of sea life in it. 🐬🐋🐳

It looks like my June choice is Buried. Perri, does it look like any of the husbands survive? I'll be anxious to read your review now that we have been discussing it. I agree, one is enough.
Hi everyone! I am late but put up my list for June. I couldn’t do the links because I’m on my phone but I will figure it out for next month... please vote if you can 🙂
Dana did you read the other Kwan books? I tired the read the first and it wasn't my type of humor. I voted for another book for you, but maybe I will change
Perri - I too have read the first and I found it hilarious. Looks like I'll be reading Short Drop next month.
Hi perri! I’m on book two right now, I liked the first one a lot. It’s not normally my type of book but I am finding myself needing lighter reads right now...
Welcome, Brenda, this is great timing! Janet, our fearless moderator, will probably put up July threads soon. So how it works: Go to PIFM-June thread and list a few books you'd like to read. Then in the PIFM -June Selection thread you can vote on which book you want the others to read. And you already know this if for questions and chatter! Since the end of the month is in a few days. I'd just wait until new threads go up, but shout out any questions!
I decided to read 2 this month...
Ask Again, Yes which I am reading now bc my library hold came in. And
When All Is Said because it won an Brenda said "read it"! And it won.

I am on P. 117 out of 350 and it has been emotional. It is very good! I will let you konw when I finish.
Looks like it will be a good month for you, Vicki! Or a good week since you're a speedy reader. Are you getting your books online?
I am getting some from the library cloud as ebooks and others as an audio. I have been listening to more audio books since I have been home from work. There is only one more week of school (distance learning) and then summer break. I am eager to find out what will happen in the fall. I really want to go back to the classroom, but we will see.
I did get a notice from the local library that they will be doing contactless pick up for physical books. There will be no returning them, but we can go and check them out. I haven't been yet, but am going to try to get over there next week.

Hi guys!
Hope you're all staying safe and well and reading plenty. I have kind of got my reading mojo back. Just binge read a couple of books, one being When The Crawdads Sing which just broke my heart. Loved it!!
Anyhow, it's that time again and I have posted the July and August threads. If you could just stick with July for now and then move on to August when meant to then it may be easier for any newcomers.
Enjoy your June selections and happy reading. :)

How is everyone? Not to get political, but the last 24 hours have been terrifying and depressing.
I am in San Diego and last night my grocery store was looted, my bank branch was burned down, my walmart and target were looted and many businesses destroyed in my neighborhood. Helicopters overhead all night, sirens, smoke and very little sleep. This type of thing has never happened in San Diego. We always say "Stay classy San Diego", but that was not to be. It feels bad because we have crossed a line and we can never go back. Nerves and anxiety are high after reading so many rumors online about what might happen tonight. It is night now and I am holding my breath.
I thought COVID was my biggest worry bc my husband is a nurse in the ER. The last 2 1/2 months have been stressful, but seriously nothing like the last 24 hours. I am waiting for my husband to get home so I am not alone.
I hope everyone is safe.
That's awful Vicki! How scary to have violence so close at hand. I hope last night was more peaceful
Vicki, I hadn't heard about San Diego. I am in Santa Ana and the looters were bad but not that bad. We are worried because we are within a mile of a Walmart that seems to be an obvious target. I am afraid to go to the grocery store now.
Ah Vicki that is so scary... I didn’t hear about that part of it. It’s so sad that is happening, I would be terrified if I was alone too. Thinking of you guys !
I admit I was very nervous last night. It started with my overhead bedroom light making a weird rattling sound, which it had never done before. It did it a few times in a row and I noticed like a loud motor sound while it was rattling. Then I started hearing helicopters! I peered out the living room window and I could see two helicopters circling up in the sky. I had heard about the rioting going on here but as far as I knew, it was on the other side of the river.. but now it was apparently coming closer. So I felt really nervous and jittery... couldn't sit still. Kept jumping up to look out the window even though I just saw the parking lot and the park. Of course it was dark out so couldn't see much at all really. It didn't help any that my neighbors (or at least one anyway) was running up and back in the hallway and slamming doors. I'm sure they were nervous too! But that behavior increased my anxiety..the problem was I had no idea what to do.. should I stay dressed? Should I push something against the door? Truly no idea!! So I wrote an email to 2 friends I really on and one happened to be awake. She called me and we stayed on the phone until midnight. By then it was getting quiet and the helicopters were going away. She saw on her tv that it was breaking up and leaving my area. But this morning I saw on the news that there had been like a hundred cops just 2 blocks from my apartment in full riot gear. Someone had fired shots. Somebody had thrown a motor scooter through the window of a shop. More people had been arrested..
By 1 am I was still awake! Had a jerky leg. The stress must have eaten up my magnesium so I had to get up and go eat another banana. After that I fell asleep. But this morning I was somewhat scatter brained. Which I'm normally not.
There were such huge crowds of people. I'm sure the virus will spread more now due to those crowds. I heard after they left my area they crossed the river and went into my friend's neighborhood where they broke into a gas station. She and her young son were terrified..
I hope it stays quiet tonight but I don't know..
Even more shocking though is that earlier today I received a text from another lady I know and she sent me photos showing she was AT a protest. I'm like "What?!" That shocked me more than what happened last night! And she took her teen daughter to it too. 😱
This is in Milwaukee. The friend above with the daughter is in Waukesha.
I never experienced anything like this before..
Oh I also heard in my area last night cars were driving on the sidewalk and on the grass in the park and on front lawns!
That is terrifying Vicki! I had heard a Walgreens here had been set on fire and neighbors had to put it out. This stuff really scares me, especially when it comes close to where I live. I also travel on foot so I don't want to be out walking and run into these groups of people!! I had to cancel an appointment tomorrow because of this stuff. Will do it by phone instead!
Perri, I happen to have a copy of Equal Rites. Would you want to do a buddy read of that one next month??
Well the helicopters are back and have been going at it for over an hour now. I don't know if they will go away?? It's already 30 minutes past the time it broke up yesterday. Maybe not a good sign?? I was reading a book though...trying to ignore it..
Stay safe Sarah. It is probably a good idea to stay indoors as much as possible. Hard to believe this is all happening here.
Vicki, I hope it has gotten better for you. It is scary when you are alone. I have decided to make a baby quilt for my Godson's new little girl. I find that quilting and books to be somewhat relaxing.
Vicki and Sarah, thank you for sharing your stories. We’re so rural that this would never affect us. Your reality makes it more personal to me than what I see on television. Please stay safe!
I went out to the park next to my apartment today. Things were like normal. Kids on bikes, joggers, a couple having lunch, ladies strolling in summer hats... I sat in the sun for an hour and read my book. Then I moved to the shade. Read for another hour. I saw 17 baby geese with 4 adults. People walking dogs. So over hear at least it's normal during the day.But as soon as it gets dark ..
The noise has started up again at 8:30. I can hear loud pops and like the loud constant roar of motorcycles or something?? No helicopters yet! It's like two different worlds, one during the day and one at night!! Which is insane.
I hope no helicopters tonight! I didn't get to sleep until like 2 am and my friend who lives nearby didn't get to sleep until after 3:30 am due to the loud noise.
I'm going to the ranch tomorrow..I haven't been there in months! Hopefully I can see Oliver and Rio and George! It's all outside so hopefully should be safe. 🐎
I did walk up Oakland earlier today. I saw a glass door on a private residence that had a big spider web cracks in the glass. Also saw on a store where windows must have been smashed as it was replaced with boards. The boards had grafitti on them already.
Right now I just hear a constant distant roar and lots of pops.
It is very hard to believe..also the sudden change from night to day is so strange!! It's like something out of a book!
Reading my book in the park by the river helped me to relax. But then I'm very observant too.
Vicki, I now have 8 in the ground. Two of them are already blooming. Can't wait to see what varieties I am going to get. I love the mystery.

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Many thanks.
