When Ash rescues Lorelai from a disastrous potential marriage, he quickly dispenses with Mortimer by killing him on the spot without a second thought. Your thoughts about that?

Well, I didn't expect that to happen. I figured Ash would rescue Lorelai and take her away. That would have given Mortimer the opportunity to kidnap her at the end of the book so she could be saved by the hero. I'm glad the author mixed it up this time.

I didn't see that coming. I thought Ash might show up to rescue her from her elderly groom, but I didn't see murder.

I was surprised he killed him so quickly and publically. I didn't expect The Rook to stage a public kidnapping and murder. I fully expected him to kill Mortimer and take Lorelai, just not like that.

[Jonetta]

I expected he’d eventually do in Mortimer, for good reason, but was really taken aback that he did it publicly. As for abducting Lorelai at the altar? That I could see him doing.

I wasn't surprised that he would kidnap Lorelai. But killing Mortimer that way? I was so glad he did away with him permanently but I was really surprised.

Yeah, this book was full of surprises. I thought Mortimer would be the villain throughout the book, so his immediate death was unexpected.

You know, I’m glad the author took out the obvious (Mortimer). It made Sebastian more of a surprise.

[Lauren]

Compared to the other books in the series so far, Sebastian's villainy seems weak. Perhaps because Byrne will need to redeem him in his own story, she couldn't make him too much of a threat.
