Here's an interesting and easy project...in keeping with Thoreau and his love of nature:π²GROW YOUR OWN SMALL PINE TREE:
1~Go to the woods and collect one or two pinecones
2~Add some soil to a small pot or bowl
3~Plant the cone in the pot, upright, so that most of the cone stands out and only the bottom is covered with the soil
4~Pour a small amount of water on it every day. Too much water will rot the cone
5~After some time, a tiny tree will appear
6~Congratulations! You just started oxygen production and you have a piece of the forest in your own home!
*If the pot or bowl is large enough, you can add moss and decorative stones on top of the soil. Continue to add water regularly.

We just got back from our "camping" trip! I feel really silly having called it a camping trip because the cabin we rented actually had more modern conveniences than our house! π But we had a wonderful time. We had a lovely view of Mt. Kineo across the lake, and could walk right down to the lake shore in the backyard! We watched the sunrise yesterday morning, then went out for a drive around a lot of backroads just looking at the scenery and climbed Owl's Head Mtn. But this morning was the highlight for me, because we climbed Mt. Kineo! It was raining so we had it all to ourselves, too! Here are a few pictures of Mt. Kineo. I've got LOTS more but I think I'm just going to do a blog post about it later and I'll let y'all know when it's posted. π

Not my picture, obviously, but here's the fire tower on the summit of Mt. Kineo where I took that last picture from! We were waaaayyy above the trees!

I don't know what states Loon's are usually in, or if they're just everywhere, but it sounds so familiar, I feel like I've heard one before, like in person.
Hmm, I just looked up what states they're located, and the only state I've been to on the list is Michigan.

From this range map, it looks like they are mostly in the far northern US and Canada during the summer months, but they do migrate throughout the rest of the US.
I've went camping quite a bit in Kentucky, and I feel like that's where I heard one maybe.

π The tower is 60 feet high.
I was able to see the Antares rocket which launched from Virginia last night! It wasn't more than a glowing orange orb in the Southeast sky, and it was only visible for about 4 minutes, but it was really neat to watch, knowing what it was!πππPammy Jo
