Pamela | 2209 comments Just a curious question for those of you who have seen any of the film adaptations of Little Women...Which of the theatrical film releases is your favorite? I'm interested in opinions of movie releases, not television adaptations. I have an all time favorite and I'm wondering if anybody else has a favorite film adaptation?

Ahh, thank you Pammy Jo! 😀 My favorite version of Little Women is the 1949 movie with Elizabeth Taylor as Amy. I've seen one other that starred Audrey Hepburn as Jo, but it was just too dramatic! 😂

That is my favorite, too, Meg! I enjoyed the cast so much and thought it was a great adaptation!

Really?! Wow, I don't know if I've ever talked to anyone else who has watched it! 😀 Come to think of it, it's actually been years since I've seen it...maybe Dorry and I will watch it this evening. 😊
Do you prefer older movies? Almost everything we watch was made before 1960. I can't stand modern movies! 😂

I've always liked that version! I agree with you about movies, too Meg. Old, vintage Hollywood films are my favorites. They were decent and not so graphic like newer movies. The actual story was good, not special effects and such. I will admit, I do watch newer movies if Harrison Ford or Richard Gere are the stars...but frankly, I could watch those two if all they did was sit in a chair and smile for two hours! 😍💓💗My all-time favorite actors are Paul Newman, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne. I like Doris Day, Grace Kelly, Judy Garland and Katherine Hepburn, too. I'm the same way with music and enjoy songs from the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. My favorites are Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Elvis. Yes, I do like Elvis! 🎶🎸🎵

Hi Pammy,
you would fit right in our house.
We LOVE old movies and classic
standard music.
Philadelphia Story
Bringing Up Baby
Holiday
To Catch A Thief
The Thin Man Series
Arsenic and Old Lace
Meet Me in St Louis
The Clock, etc.

We also love Nat King Cole,
Perry Como.

Your list of movies got me thinking about Judy Garland. I love Meet Me in St. Louis and I also enjoyed her in The Harvey Girls. While The Wizard of Oz is a classic, I never liked it very much. Being an animal lover all of my life, I remember being terrified when the witch took Toto! When I was little, I cried and cried because I was so afraid of those awful flying monkeys! To this day I dislike monkeys! My parents used to go to the Allentown Fair every year and there was always an organ grinder there with his monkey. All the kids loved giving the monkey coins, but I was scared of him. The one time I did give the little pest money, he grabbed my hand and nearly scared me to death! I can still picture his nasy grin!🙈🙉🙊😳 I never liked Lassie movies or Disney films like Bambi, either because it always upset me when an animal was in danger (with the exception of monkeys)!

I was peculiar that way. I have another secret fear, too...I did not like Santa Claus, either. Not at all! In every one of the photos I have of myself on Santa's lap, I look terrified! I mean all through childhood, parents tell you not to talk to or take candy from strangers, but every year, what do they do??? They take you to sit on Santa's lap, a man you really don't know well, and then he gives you a candy cane!! 🎅😯 Really??!! LOL!LOL!!!

Pammy Jo
*I did love the Easter Bunny and was not afraid to have my photo taken with him! Of course, he, being a bunny, was a cute animal and I have no problem with that!☺🐇🐰🥕

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments Pammy,
I enjoyed your post.
I didn't like the Wizard of Oz either,
nor the Disney animal movies, for that
matter.
It wasn't until my adulthood that
found a favorite, The Little Mermaid.
😄
Funnily enough, I didn't like Santa
and cried when I sat on his lap-
that's probably why I didn't get a
pony for Christmas.
I had fun at Easter, though no bunny.

message 2171: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments It's so funny that we are so much alike, Ruth! I have to agree about The Little Mermaid. I did enjoy that one. I think because it was only fish and not anything furry and cute! Beauty and the Beast was okay, too. I appreciated that Belle liked books so much. As much as I disliked Santa, I did love the reindeer. Christmas was about Jesus for me. My grandmother bought me a child's Nativity playset when I was little and I used to create elaborate scenes with twigs and hay, etc. and I played for hours with that, even rubber banding Mary to the donkey and pretending she was riding to Bethlehem, which I built out of blocks. I have fond memories of that!

Yes, indeed!😅
Beauty and the Beast is another favorite, a reader and
that library. Swoon!💕
That is so sweet a memory.
If it occurred to me, I would have liked making a
nativity as a child.

🎶Under the sea Under the sea🎶
🎶[Chorus 3]🎶
Under the sea
Under the sea
When the sardine begin the beguine
It's music to me
What do they got? A lot of sand
We got a hot crustacean band
Each little clam here
Know how to jam here
Under the sea
Each little slug here
Cuttin' a rug here
Under the sea
Each little snail here
Know how to wail here
That's why it's hotter
Under the water
Ya we in luck here
Down in the muck here
🎶Under the sea🎶

I love that 'tune!😙🎶

Oh yes, many times! I can still remember the first time my dad showed us Moby Dick...I was only about 9 years old and when my mom told me that all but one man got killed at the end I wouldn't watch the rest. 😂 I don't think I ever did see the ending till I was about 18! I actually never read it...we checked it out from the library several years ago but then my mom noticed that it had a lot of bad language in it. I had only read maybe the first chapter or so and remember thinking already that the movies was better.
