Doreen,
😄-You are a trooper, thank God you are
alright. I understand, sometimes you just
have to laugh about things.
That was a good story. 😉

I actually got a lot of these books on eBay. You can search for a specific book or author under Books > Antique and Collectible. I was just looking and they have 6 pages of antique copies of Evangeline! :)

You know it's such a stressful time for all of us so if I could provide a good laugh it was all worth it. And that thought did go through my head. lol

Joanna Today was beautiful and most of the new snow has melted. I took these pictures this morning. It seemed like my crocuses were saying, "Let's try this again!" :D

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) My youngest daughter started making masks as soon as she could. I have 5 of hers. I got some from Amazon as well, hope they aren't from where you got yours.

Meg, I love your book collection and I love the pink roses on the doily and the little cherub.

I live in Colorado, you know, the great out West. Half the people in the stores are maskless even though we are on lockdown with confirmed cases in town. I don't understand people. I stay at home most of the time, shop when we must and am enjoying the isolation a lot :-)

message 109: by Joanna (new)

Joanna The hardest thing for me personally is not being able to have church and the libraries being closed! Also our family business is pretty much dead.

Hi MaryAnn,
It is alarming how indifferent people can be.
I was mowing the lawn and a family was walking
close by as if it was last year. I had to walk to
the other side of the lawn to keep my distance.
That was wise and industrious of your daughter
to make her own masks.

Joanna Emma wrote: "That's really fast! 17 in 5 days?! That's great! How often do your dogs have puppies?"

There is a huge demand for Golden Retrievers up here...lol! I'm not breeding my oldest female anymore (she's 7 now) so I just have 2 females that are breeding age. I usually have a litter once or twice a year. This was the first time I had 2 litters at the same time and it was crazy! :D

We love our humor.
Harris County is where we live, it is about the
size of Rhode Island.

Margaret | 86 comments Has your daughter thought of selling masks online, MaryAnn? I am looking for an alternative to the paper masks we are using now. my FB feed does show some options. I think we will be wearing masks for some time now.

Joanna Since I finished Tales of a Wayside Inn a few days early, I think I'm going to treat myself to My Kinsman, Major Molineux by Nathaniel Hawthorne tomorrow (it's a short story around 20 pages). I know it's a part of his last collection of short stories, The Snow-Image and Other Twice-Told Tales by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Fiction, Classics, Historical, which I hope we'll all get to read eventually, but I have it in a small collection of his works and really want to read it after seeing it mentioned by Longfellow!
I know it's really last minute notice and you all have plenty to read, but if anyone wants to read it with me let me know! :)

Emma | meadowroselibrary I think it actually worked! This is Charley, one from our last Havaton litter.

message 125: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Awww, he looks so sweet! <3

Emma | meadowroselibrary Thanks :D I just can't believe I figured out how to put a picture on here! (I'm not usually that smart when comes to figuring out something like this)

Haha I'm not either! It took me over a year to figure it out. :D

Emma | meadowroselibrary Hahaha! That's nice to know. 🤣🤣

Joanna Another sign of Spring...my dad saw a bear with a cub today!! He said it was a big one and just stood there in the road and looked at him. But he didn't have a camera...arrgh!

One of our neighbors took this at their place a couple years ago...

Emma | meadowroselibrary Is it normal for y'all to see bears out there?!

Yes they are quite common here!

message 133: by Joanna (new)

Joanna We have a lot of interesting wildlife up here. Once a couple of Canada lynx wandered onto our property just as I was going snowshoeing. They went into our fenced-in field where I run with my dogs and I followed them around taking pictures. They weren't afraid of me at all!

message 134: by Joanna (new)

Joanna About a year ago I was exploring in the woods and found this! Can you guess what it is? :D

message 135: by Marian (new)

Marian (classicsconsidered) Wow, that is really neat!! But it's enormous... a moose maybe?

Those lynx are such beautiful animals. They look similar to our bobcats, but with short tails. (Sadly, I've never seen a bobcat in the wild; I just know we're supposed to have them here!)

Yep it's a moose! That skull has been sitting outside by our house for a year. Just the other day a friend of my sister's (who lives in TN) offered me $100 for it...now I've got to figure out how to pack it! :D

Lynx do look a lot like bobcats. For some reason I'm thinking that bobcats are a lot meaner than lynx, but I could be wrong.

message 137: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Wow, I was walking in the woods this morning and came across this huge pile of hair! No bones or anything, it just looks like something shed a lot of its winter coat! I thought at first it was a coyote but now I'm pretty sure it's lynx!

message 138: by Ruth (new)

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments My word, Meg, your posts are fill of surprises.
The moose skull was an interesting find,
how heavy is it?
Congratulations on your sale, that must have made your day.

Wow! Surely that is more than one Lynx.!?
Have you come across this before? That big a pile?
You will have to excuse my curiosity, here in Texas,
the only thing I see are June bugs, locust or egg shell.

That is an extraordinary sight! The bear too.
They must be used to people.
At this point who needs the zoo?

I'm not sure about the weight of the moose skull...maybe 10 pounds? Guess I'll find out once I mail it! :D

I've come across little tufts of the same hair in thickets recently but this is the first time I've come across a pile of hair like that! It could be from just one lynx...they have very thick winter coats and are probably shedding them now. I just went back out there to collect some of the hair and found more evidence around that it was a lynx. They are one of my favorite animals. :)

They are 5 weeks old, they'll be 6 weeks on Sunday.

message 146: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Aww! They are such fun at that age, but also getting to be a lot of work! ;) How much do they typically weigh at that age? My goldies usually weigh around 6-8 pounds!

Emma | meadowroselibrary It depends on the litter, but usually around 2-3 pounds. We have one mom that has pretty big puppies! So hers would be more like 3-4 pounds. They are so much fun at this age! And definitely getting to be more work :D But, that's our job :)

message 148: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Aww they sound sooo adorable! <3 Yes, I'm sure it does vary a lot in different litters and how many there are in the litter. How many puppies do you usually have in a litter, or is there a "usual"? Just curious because with my dogs I've had as few as 1 and as many as 13!

Emma | meadowroselibrary Well, we do 3 different breeds. The Havatons are usually 6 or 7, Coton de Tulears 5 or 6, and Cotonese Mix 6 or 7. Our average overall is 6.

message 150: by Joanna (new)

Joanna That's a nice litter size. It gets a bit crazy when there's 13 in a litter! Lol
