Did you see anything? I didn't, but we are surrounded by trees to the east, so if it was close to the horizon it may not be visible from here (we were on a hill when I saw it last week).

Pamela | 2209 comments No, I didn't see a thing. We had storms through most of the night. More of the same expected tonight and tomorrow night. I'm disappointed. A bit worried, too. They say we could have severe weather with damaging winds, large hail and flooding downpours. I am ready to move into a cave! Today I would actually like to feel winter in the air. Too bad we can't bottle this heat and save it for winter, and bottle the winter cold and release it on a day like today!
If only I knew how to do that...I would earn enough money to buy every book I would love to have! ; )

*Actually, I did not sleep at all last night b/c my cat was terrified of the storms and I had to comfort her and hold her all night long!

Oh wow, well I hope the storms won't be as bad as they say! Haha, I've got so many ideas for inventions like that. One of my pet inventions would be a way to record and share smells, like we can sights and sounds!

Poor kitty! You are such a wonderful owner to stay up and comfort her...but you must be so tired!

Oh dear Pamela!! 🥺 We had some bad storms yesterday, we actually saw some funnel clouds, but they passed over and it never turned into a tornado, thankfully!! Aww you're cat is very blessed to have you!!!

we came to Texas by way of Florida-
having lived there one year.
Neither places suited us either.

Yeah I think we are about the opposite of TX. Six months of deep freeze is a bit too much! 😄

After a storm it usually takes at least a few hours to get ourselves dug out. There are days though, when the wind blows so hard it's just a lost cause because of all the drifting!

Well the basement/wellhouse flooding is ground water, so it doesn't necessarily mean that we are flooded above ground (although we've had some of that too a couple of years). The water is pumped out into the yard, where it runs off/soaks back into the ground.

Joanna On our first morning in PA, we turned on the TV in our motel room just to see if there was anything worth watching (we don't have a TV in our home). There happened to be a program on about historic forts in PA and they mentioned Fort Zeller. My dad said, "That's where your great-great-great-great grandmother (there may have been another great in there, I can't remember! 😅) chopped 3 Indians' heads off!" I was like, "What?!" 😄 Actually he did tell me this story many years ago, but I guess it didn't make nearly as much of an impression on me then. Here's the story - it sounds just like something from Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales! I am named for her daughter and son-in-law. (Joanna for Johannes and my middle name Elizabeth, for Elizabetha).

Whilst alone in the fort, she (Christine Zellers) saw three prowling savages approaching and heading for the small hole in the cellar shown on the picture attached. She quickly descended the cellar steps and stationed herself at this window with an uplifted ax. Presently the head of the first Indian protruded through the hole when she quickly brought down the weapon with an effective blow. Dragging the body in, she disguised her voice and, in Indian language, beckoned his companions to follow, which they did and were all dispatched in like manner. It was here that the community found refuge during the Indian troubles, at which time it is said to have been attacked. —Clarence M. Busch, Frontier Forts of Pennsylvania, 1896

😃- My goodness, Meg.
Your family history is fantastic.
Five great-grandfather's ago.
You have ancestors in the fabric
of America. You certainly have
their spirit- as in an adventurous

Our family came over to America in 1738. We have ancestors in every American war. One of them was neighbors with Squire Boone (Daniel Boone's father). This is my great-great grandfather...

What a great photo! Having an interest in Civil War history all of my life, I searched for years hoping to find ancestors who fought in the war. My great-great uncle was a surgeon in a PA unit. I was shocked to discover that 2 of his brothers moved South several years prior to the war. One to New Orleans and one to Charleston. They married and owned their own businesses. When the war broke out, both remained loyal to their states. Each fought in the Confederate Army and they both survived the war. My Charleston uncle went on to live a long life. My New Orleans uncle was sadly killed in a robbery at his drygoods store soon after returning home from the war... such a sad time in our nation's history. It really was "brother against brother" for some.

Pammy Jo
I suppose that explains my life long fondness for all things Southern!

Yes I do, mostly Ruth! 😅
Let's see... I may have missed one, but I'm pretty sure once Mandie and Willow have theirs in the next week or so, we'll have had 12.

Haha, not that I know of! Our family all settled in PA and OH so I don't have any New England roots that I know of.
I don't think anyone in our immediate family resembles him. I've been told that I look a lot like his daughter (my great-great aunt), though.

That's so funny! I've often wondered how people manage with identical twins. 😅 Oddly enough, my sister and I have been asked if we were twins, which we never could figure out because I've always been a head and shoulder taller and we don't look much alike!

That is so interesting, Pamela! Reminds me of one of our favorite civil war songs, 'Write a Letter to My Mother'...

Although all my ancestors fought for the Union, I have a great respect for the Confederate side as well.
