I hope you can have your computer repaired without too much difficulty. I am back online and the work is just about finished. They are pouring cement right now and expect to finish today.🤞

Thanks, Pamela. Yay! I was able to get Internet access through the Microsoft Edge browser after all. (I didn't try that one this morning, and I should have!) So, all's well that ends well. :-) And glad that you're back online as well!

Pamela | 2209 comments Well, I'm still online this morning, so it appears that the utility work was successful! They were working in my neighborhood until about 8:30 last night! Usually, they wrap up around 4:00 pm, so I think they were determined to complete the project yesterday! 😃👏🤸‍♀️

I've noticed the same thing lately. I thought it was because I was offline for some time, so just missed some notifications. I guess it's not that. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

Delays in notifications are a chronic problem on Goodreads. It does get fixed eventually (and eventually occurs again :-( ).

Pamela | 2209 comments Just when the buzzing in my head finally stopped, the ""Annual Dog Day Cicadas" have arrived! They are broader in shape than the "17 Year Cicadas" (aka Periodical Cicadas) and they are primarily green in color. Their shells are larger, too. They are just as loud as the the 17 year critters. Ugh! I'll be hearing them in my sleep again! 🤪

Here's the difference, if you're interested...

It seems to run in cycles. I had the same thing happen a few months ago, too. I know right away if it's not legit as there is always a weird link after the person's name. When I see that, I automatically block the person. I've never had any trouble because of it, it's just annoying. When I first started using goodreads, a man sent a friend request to me and a message with the request saying he was in Rome doing some work at the Vatican and needed to get home to NY, and would I help him out with that? Yeah, right away! I blocked him, but would have liked to say "Why don't you see if Pope Francis can help you out with that!" 😆🤣😂😁😉

Ever since about 10:00 last night, I haven't been getting e-mailed notifications from Goodreads about new comments on threads where I've commented. It's done this before (sigh!), although the previous time, the missing notifications turned up accidentally diverted to my "Spam" folder, which isn't the case this time. I can still get most of the notifications (although not for comments on reviews!) by clicking om the little bell icon on my Goodreads toolbar; but it's still annoying, and I'm hoping it will be fixed soon.

Pamela | 2209 comments I am feeling so grateful today.🙏 We had a large tornado last night. It started in my town in Bucks County, PA (I was shocked when the warning came and named my town!) and swept through the whole county, crossed the Delaware River, where it became a waterspout, then continued as a tornado through southern New Jersey, finally going offshore at Long Beach Island! Officials can't believe the length of the tornado's path! It was on the ground for more than 100 miles! Unheard of in this area. They say it formed from a Super Cell storm. A car dealership was totally destroyed, homes were destroyed, along with trees and so much other destruction. There were injuries all over, but no fatalities, thankfully.🙏 The National Weather Service is going to survey the damage today to determine the strength of the tornado.

I have never seen anything like it in my entire life! Our property was not damaged and I only found one small tree branch down. Just up the hill, swimming pools were sucked at least 50 feet into the air, cars were flipped, trees fell, traffic lights and electric poles were ripped from the ground, among other damage. We've had small tornadoes around here in the past, but never anything of this magnitude. I watched the tornado form over my town. It dropped down just after it passed my street, then continued through the entire county! Terrifying! Praying for all those who have suffered total devastation from the storm.🙏 Again, I am very, very thankful today!

Pamela

It's the next town over and about 2 miles from Trumbauersville, the town where I live. The tornado just formed here, but dropped down up the hill from my house...not even 1/4 of a mile away.😳 It's about the only story on the news today!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Pamela, so glad you and your mom came through this unharmed, and that no one was killed! The folks in the storm's path will be in my prayers.

Barb and I take tornadoes very seriously, because our family's home in Petersburg, Indiana was totaled by one in 1990, while we were in it (we took refuge in a closet). But we can tell a similar testimony of God's protecting grace! None of us were hurt at all (though if things had happened a bit differently, we easily could have been). Though the town suffered substantial damage and seven people died (five in Petersburg, and two in the nearby hamlet of Union), it's remarkable that there weren't hundreds of deaths. The number of providential deliverances was absolutely amazing.

I remember seeing Joanna Mell's name in the local paper. I've always loved harp music, so noticed the mention of some of her performances. I've never met her or heard her play, though. Harp music is so peaceful. I can't imagine being able to learn to play the harp! I admire those who can.🙂

My mom plays the harp, loves Joanna Mell's music...My sister and I also play, a little...there are a lot of strings, but the key is to know which are the Cs, and which are the Fs...(usually red and blue, respectively) and then it's pretty easy to figure out.

Pamela wrote: "So sorry that you lost your home. Thank the Lord you were not injured!"

Yes, we were super-thankful then, and still are! The loss of the home was inconvenient, but we were able to stay in it for a day or two until our insurance company was able to move us. They enabled us to rebuild, and provided temporary rental housing in the meantime, so that was another great blessing in the situation.

Pamela | 2209 comments Good morning! I just had to share this as evidence of my lack of confidence in meteorologists in this area. This is a direct quote from a local, Bucks County, PA forecast for today...

"Low pressure may traverse that boundary and bring a threat of rain or rain showers on Thursday, but there are several models that suggest as early as Wednesday night…or nothing at all. A lot of uncertainty with this period."

*I am absolutely more confident in my original "Rock Outside My Door" weather prediction plan! LOL!!! By the way, the sky is blood red here early this morning. I have always been taught that's a sign of bad weather later in the day.

"Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in morning, sailor's warning" ⛵🌞🌧☔ 🤔🤨😏🙄🤪

Pamela | 2209 comments Someone tried to break into our basement overnight. The screen in the window was cut. Our neighbor happened to be away very late and came in the driveway at the time and scared the individual away...thankfully! Another police report to make. I'll be busy dealing with that incident today, so most likely won't be on Goodreads much. This town and neighborhood is becoming a vandalism/crime mecca!😡

We dealt with the screen. I'm relieved about that, but what a day so far around here. Around 11:30 this morning I heard a loud boom, felt the house shake, and the windows and doors rattled. My cats were terrified! They got fluffed up and ran under the table to hide. Somebody was up in a hot air ballon early this morning, so I was afraid he came by again and hit my house. That wasn't it. There was a 4.2 earthquake near the Delaware/Pennsylvania state line. It was felt throughout southeastern Pa, Maryland and southern New Jersey! I know I felt it and heard it! 😳 It really makes me wonder what's going on lately! Flooding, tornadoes, earthquakes...It's getting frightening!🙏

*Update...Now there are reports of an earthquake in Maryland, too.

Pamela | 2209 comments I've been watching the news, but they aren't saying anything. I checked online and found this:

https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/eart...

Lots of reports all around, saying exactly what I felt. Very strange that it's not newsworthy.🤔

message 6046: by Pamela (last edited Aug 04, 2021 07:52PM) (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments So, now they are saying the following about the loud boom and shaking that everyone around here heard and felt today:

"The loud noise reported in parts of New Castle County Wednesday morning around 11:30 may have been heard from a planned explosion at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.

The U.S. Army site tweeted out today its plans for a daytime and nighttime firing between 7:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m."

🤨🤔😲 Very strange, nevertheless. I looked up the Aberdeen site and lots of people commented that they don't think it was related to the Proving Ground blast. Who knows? I do know that my cat, Sarah, is still nervous late tonight. Every little sound is making her jump!

Over the past five days, I've gotten my e-mails of the daily bundled group updates from Goodreads (of course, I only got back to check my inbox earlier this afternoon). But I'm still getting hardly any e-mailed notices of single new comments on discussions where I've commented; and I know there are other Goodreaders who are also having problems of one sort or another with notifications. If my problem isn't corrected soon, I'm going to contact Goodreads' technical support.

I was watching the news late last night (why do I continue to do that🤷‍♀️❔🙄) and they are reporting numerous great white shark sightings close to shore, along the New Jersey coast. One shark is said to be about 1400 pounds and over 13 feet in length! 😳 🏄‍♀️🦈 I prefer to take my chances with the black bears in my area! At least they are cute! 🐻🏕😉
