Emma | meadowroselibrary I would say more tart than tangy probably. The recipe calls for honey, so that really helps with the flavor.

Hannah Alane | 662 comments OOO, we love using elderberry syrup! It works great for kicking colds!

We also boil ginger for a once-a-day preventative too. Boil some cut up ginger with a cup of water....then let it boil down to 3/4 a cup. Let it cool down and take a Tblsp a day or whenever feeling sick. We add lime or lemon juice too.

My secret is out! 😂 I picked that name several years ago when I had the big idea to write a book (it hasn't yet happened!) and when I started my Goodreads account I just used it for more privacy (I don't mind friends knowing, though 🤗).

message 578: by Joanna (new)

Joanna It would be neat if there was something like this site that went into more detail, like Who is you favorite author, What is your favorite book, etc., and then picked a name for you!
I chose my pen name from Little Women and The Pathfinder, by James Fenimore Cooper.

Emma | meadowroselibrary Well, I love the name Meg as well. My grandmother's name was Margaret Rose, (that's why my middle name is Rose) So that name has always been special to me. I've always said I'll name my first daughter Margaret Rose. :)

Hi Meg,
Why not, Miss Capleton? Meg Durham is clever.
It figures you would get something akin to the
N.E.L. authors.
Cindy Capleton
Appleton, Fanny Appleton- Longfellow's wife.

message 587: by Joanna (last edited Jun 28, 2020 02:26PM) (new)

Joanna I had quite an adventure this afternoon! After lunch I went for a walk in the woods. I visited several favorite spots, but the woods are so thick right now, if you start paying more attention to wildflowers on the ground than where you're walking it's easy to get disoriented and that's exactly what happened to me. I've gotten slightly disoriented before but have always managed to find my way by the sun, or hearing my dogs barking. Well, it was early afternoon so the sun was directly overhead, and my dogs must have been sleeping! I could tell which was north, but had no idea which was east or west. I did know that as long as I headed north I would come out of the woods, but when I finally did, I couldn't believe my eyes! I was in a very pretty meadow full of buttercups, nd beyond that, potato fields that I had never seen before! Well by now I completely distrusted my judgement so I did not want to go back into the woods. I followed the farm road going through the potato field which led up a hill where I hoped I could see enough to get a bearing on where I was. Well, I could see town in the distance, but still had no idea how to get home. I still wasn't going back in the woods though, so I kept walking and finally a young man came along on a dirt bike and I flagged him down, told him where I lived and asked how I could get home? Sooo, embarrassing, but I was desperate! It turned out to be quite simple...I just needed to take the first trail to the right, and then turn right again on a little woodland road which would take me out into the field behind our property. WHEW!! There is no telling how long I would have wandered there if he hadn't appeared. He was a Godsend! I'm still a little shaky, and I've been home for over an hour. I wasn't really afraid for myself...I could see civilization and would have found some way eventually. But I wanted to get back before my family started worrying too much (they are almost as afraid of bears as Emma is 😂). Here are a few of the pictures I took along the way. I still cannot comprehend how I got soooo far out!!! 🤪

I still knew where I was at this point.

By this time I was feeling lost. But I did come upon another moose skull! I can't imagine what the guy on the dirt bike was thinking when he saw this girl in an Amish-style dress walking through the field, carrying a camera and a moose skull! 😂

The meadow I came out into, with the potato field in the distance.

In a way it was all worthwhile...on the way through the wood road I came upon a flower I've always wanted to see! Sheep Laurel...

message 588: by Ruth (new)

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments I love the meadow! Your second moose skull.

I don't really know yet! Probably just keep it around for decoration unless someone makes an offer for it! 😄 It's a lot cleaner than the other one was!

Honestly, I hope he has already forgotten. 🙄😂

Sorry I missed this, Allyson! I have a couple of book ideas simmering right now. One is a nature diary similar to Edith Holden's The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. The other would be some sort of romance set here in northern Maine. 🤷‍♀️ But I will never be satisfied unless I can write as beautifully as Hawthorne...

Emma | meadowroselibrary That is sooo funny Meg! (You know, it feels kinda weird to call you Meg now, knowing that's not your real name!! XD)
It reminds me of a story that happened to me a couple years ago. One time my older sister and I were walking on our road, heavily engrossed in our talking, and we were laughing, NOT paying any attention to anything around us. Suddenly as I was telling my sister something, I heard something come up behind me and I turned, right as our neighbor guy comes jogging up next to us! So what do I do? I screamed and fell into my sister!! I was sooooo embarrassed!!!! XD

Well, Meg, if you're still interested in writing it and need some motivation I've got just the thing for you!😉 Right now I'm apart of something called The Kings Daughter Writing Camp, it's an online camp for Christian girls of all ages to get together and get some motivation to write! It's going on for the whole month of July (but has actually already started) and is super fun! They're trying to make it feel like a camp atmosphere so everyone is designated to "tents" and each tent has an "auntie" (an older woman supervisor). It's super fun! If you don't want to that's fine! I just thought I'd offer since you said you wanted to write!😁

Sorry for confusing you, Emma! 😄 It's probably best to call me Meg in threads or comments to avoid confusion for others, but in private messages I am perfectly fine with being called by my real name! 🤗
Your story is so funny!! 😂 Are you usually pretty jumpy? I am! Our family used to own a cleaning business and we had a few employees (mostly teenagers). They quickly learned that I was jumpy. I remember one time I was vacuuming and deep in my own thoughts when a boy walked in to ask if I had done another room yet. All he did was say my name and I jumped, stomped my foot and screamed! Not long after, I was cleaning out a microwave and his sister came up behind me on purpose and put her hands on my shoulder. I whirled around (it's a wonder the microwave didn't go flying!🤣) and threw the rag I was using at her...all before I could think, of course!

That sounds like a wonderful group, Allyson! Do you have to be under a certain age to join? Because I'm 26...😏
It's not really so much a lack of motivation as it is a difficulty in putting what's inside of me into words! I don't know if this is a common problem or not, but I often feel like I have things in my heart that I can't get into my brain, let alone put into words!! Does that even make any sense?! I am seriously introverted, but then so was Hawthorne. Yet he could write so eloquently!

Emma | meadowroselibrary Some day, you'll be the next Hawthorne!! 😃

It's no bother! Both names are beautiful and great! 😄
I can be pretty jumpy. 😂 That's funny! A lot of my friends back in TN used to LOVE to tease, me, scare me, you name it! 😂 Sometimes it was teasing me about how gullible I was, or sometimes it was turning their backs at a door to block me in a room, so that when I tried to leave, they of course wouldn't let me out. One time someone threw a grasshopper on my guitar as I was playing, so yes, I screamed! 😂😂
In case you're wondering, yes it was only guys who did all this to me. 😂😂😂 Apparently I was fun to tease and scare. 🤷😂
