According to legend, St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland with his shillelagh (aka...big stick). I've read that there were never snakes in Ireland to begin with, though. We have Copperhead snakes and Eastern Timber Rattlesnakes around here. My dad took care of them with his .22 rifle and a shovel! Do you know, venomous snakes can still bite and poison you, even after they are decapitated? Snapping turtles can do the same.🙈🙉🙊🐍😯

Polish babka is available in a few varieties: chocolate, cinnamon, fruit, or cheese. My favorite is the cheese babka! Pierogies are available in different varieties. Polish pierogies are made from unleavened dough, and each pierogi piece resembles a pouch. Inside, you will find traditional fillings such as potato and cheese (pierogi ruskie), sauerkraut and mushroom (pierogi z kapustą i grzybami), ground spiced pork (pierogi z mięsem) and more. There are also sweet pierogies filled with various fruits for dessert. Again, my favorite is the potato and cheese filling. I love cheese! I boil the pierogies first, then saute them in a frying pan with butter, mushrooms and onions. And now I am craving some!

We only have babka at Christmas and Easter. That's just our family tradition, to keep it a special treat. Babka is available anytime. There is a wonderful Polish bakery and deli at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, located about 20 minutes from my home. It's a beautiful Catholic Church, with daily masses in English and Polish. They have a book/religious store there, along with a cafeteria, deli and bakery. St. John Paul II visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa on two occasions while a Cardinal. Karol Cardinal Wojtyla first visit was in 1969 and again in 1976 while attending the Eucharistic Congress held in Philadelphia. He became the 264th Pope of the Catholic Church two years later in 1978. The Shrine is beautiful! Here's a link, if you are interested:

Yes, I definitely understand that! I unfortunately have another Elizabeth Goudge book out that I probably won't be able to get to this time around. I guess I'll have to return it and request it again another time. Her books just don't seem to be the kind I can just devour in a couple of days...they seem to need to be savored.

She has a few different favorite toys. Right now her favorites seem to be a fused leather and jute rabbit my best friend sent her, and a well chewed bone. She chewed all the meat off in one sitting. She's not one to leave some for later in a case like a bone! LOL! Unfortunately, she's a little too rough with the cats so we have to keep them separate.

We used to live in Missouri and they had a lot of Copperheads. My dad would chop their heads off with a shovel. The only safe way. One time my mom almost stepped on one...thankfully my sister noticed it and pulled her back in time!

We have more copperheads than rattlers around here, but there were lots of rattlesnakes near our vacation home in the Poconos. We had to be very careful when we went out for walks or took the dogs out. One of our neighbors only came up to the mountains occasionally and one time, there was a nest of rattlers in her oven! We never had that experience, but sometimes chipmunks found there way into our house. They are cute little things!🐿

I would never cook again! Actually, I would run from the house screaming and never set foot in the place again! I think I would rather find a bear in the house, which one of our Pocono neighbors actually did! The bear had tipped over the refrigerator and was helping himself to a meal!😳🐻😳🐻😳🐻😳

Pamela | 2209 comments Good morning! Much to do here today, as we are expecting a Nor'Easter tomorrow. They say the snow will be measured in feet rather than inches. Yipee!👎Is Maine expecting the same weather system? My mom and I are running to the bank, the P.O., several stores and the pharmacy so we have everything well stocked...you know, bread, milk, eggs and all that. Whenever I hear people say that's what they're buying, it makes me think lots of folks must live on French Toast during snowstorms!😂🤣😃 The most important thing at my house is to be sure the kitties have enough food to survive the storm! It's always about the cats around here! 🐱💕🐈

I'll check back later, after I've put about 50 more miles on my car!🤪

Pammy Jo

message 5222: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Good morning, Pammy Jo! 🤗 Sorry about your snow...at least you will be well supplied and can stay warm and cozy with a book! 😊 I agree that food for the kitties is the number one priority! 😆

We're supposed to get about 8 inches this coming Tuesday...must be the same storm. I was thinking about going with my dad to PA next week but with that coming I probably won't be able to...which is fine! 😊

How is everyone on this last Saturday of January?

Eight inches?

I gather you miss your road trips?
I hope it will soon work out for you to travel.

Emmy, 🤗💕
I have missed you! There is a void of your chats.
It's odd for our roles to be reversed, I usually enter
clueless in these conversations. 👀
Are you having a cozy day too? ❤
Have you baked anything lately, besides idea?

Hi Dorothy, 🤗💕
It behooves🇺🇸 (behove 🇬🇧) me to greet you as well.

And I've been getting sick the past couple days, so that's probably why I was confused! 🤣 But yes, I am having a very nice, cozy day! 😊 I've been doing a lot of crocheting, making wash rags for my mom. 😂
No, I've not been doing too much baking lately...but I've been thinking I should make some scones here soon...haven't done that in awhile. 😁 Hope all is well with you! 🤗💕

Pammy,
Thanks for the rattler tip.
Snapping turtles too?
No fear, I usually encounter snappy people.

Holy goodness!
Babkas with fruit or cheese! 💃
Suddenly my world just opened! We had
Babkas during Christmas as well, it was the
only time it was available.
I have had potato and cheese pierogies,
for this a "Do Not Disturb"sign is warranted.
I have got to try the other varieties, looking
forward to that experience. I had no idea they
made sweet pierogies. My mother introduced
me to these delectables, being exposed to them
in N.Y.C., here we have to drive quite far to find
the good stuff. Pierogi Queen is the place Polish
Expats frequent, presently closed.
Wonderful! Now I am craving them too and none
in sight. I'll just grab a muffin. 😟 Sniff! Sniff!
Pammy, I will definitely visit you church and
deli- a pilgrimage.😉 Thank you for the link.😊
