Rosalia | 11 comments Hi everyone, I've got a little problem and need your help.

A few years back I read the three first books of The Mortal Instruments and I loved them very much. I was so, so excited for the fourth one, but when I started reading it I hated it so, so much that I abandoned it, and years later I finished it for the sake of it, but I hated it.

So, my question is: should I finish The mortal Instrument series or should I read the other ones?? Cause I read the first one of The Mortal Devices and I loved it, and I've seen a lot of people adore the other series.

Thank y'all =)

I have read all the Cassandra Clare books and enjoyed them. The Internal Devices series is stand alone, and the newer Dark Artifices series is mostly stand alone with a little build on the Mortal Instruments and Internal Devices series. The newest Last Hours series really builds on Internal Devices. I would recommend trying one of the other series to see how you like them.

I would say finish the Mortal Instruments first. If you are planning to read the Dark Artifices it makes more sense to know what has happened in the Mortal Instruments. It's not necessary to know, but it just makes it more enjoyable. You don't need to finish the Mortal Instruments for the Infernal Devices.

Hope that helps!

I've read the mortal instruments and loved it so much I'm writing a fanfic. I would read all her books.

I agree, if you want to try something different you should definitively start with The Infernal Devices, because it won't spoil you anything. I personally would suggest to go for The Dark Artifices first, since it's my favourite trilogy of all, but it may talk about things that have happened in The Mortal Instruments or actually make spoilers, so that's my advice. Hope it helps!

Henela I actually never read a Cassandra Clare's book, I really thought to, but some people told me not to, and other the opposite. Should I read them? And if i should, with which one I start?
I'm sorry if it's not the theme of the discussion, but I just enter the group and I am a little lost. Make no idea where to ask or talk.

Beenish (beenishamir) I actually started reading with tmi and loved it till book 3, I agree book 4 and 5 of tmi are a bit off but book 6 was great and is kind of a base for tda which I love!! I recently read the infernal devices so that I could read chain of gold and tid was like the best <3 !! I read Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and Ghosts of the shadow market and loved them.. I guess the only books I haven't read are those of Malec like bane chronicles and eldest curses.

I'd say just finish TMI! and start with either the dark artifices or the Infernal devices

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) I don't like Cassandra Clare's works, I've only read City of Bones, but am already feeling a two-star review coming up...😓

Beenish (beenishamir) yeah tmi doesn't define her works that well. and it gets better plus it gives a little background to tda which is just amazing!!

You cannot claim to not like an author's (or artist or musician or anyone's) work when you've only experienced one work of said person. You can say you don't like that specific work, but not use the term in the plural. I'm not trying to be aggressive nor mean, but this is a real pet peeve of mine! I'm sorry if I came across rude.

With that said, TMI is definitely her weakest work, while TID seems to be loved by many. Maybe give that trilogy a shot? If you still don't like it, there's a lot of other good ya fantasy authors! I could give you some recs based on what you like if you want, but I can't guarantee you'll like them too!

You're the one who has to know what you want to do! Do you want to read her books? If so, read the summaries for City of Bones and for Clockwork Angel and decide which one you like the best (or even if you like them) and that's the one you read first! Some people say it's ok to read Lady Midnight before reading all six books in The Mortal Instruments, however you'd get some spoilers for that series. Everyone has different tastes, no matter how similar they are. I have a really good friend whose tastes are so similar to mine sometimes it gets scary, even when it comes to books. However, I've come to notice my favourite books are never her favourites and vice versa.

Really, decide for yourself, after reading their summaries, if the stories interest you and if you'd like to give them a shot! Good luck!

I'm thinking of reading them, just a little lost where to start, but you help. Anyway, thank you :)

Manisha Baishya | 48 comments I picked up Cassandra Clare's work only recently during this lockdown.. and I am bewildered by her writing.. I completed TID and GOD!! Her work with right words in right times is just inexplicably fantastic... I thoroughly loved TID and already ordered TMI. :D
