What's so great about The Great Gatsby?

When I was studying at university, one of my teachers said to me that the point about any important book in literature is that it makes something new. In Waiting for Godot it is the thing that the whole story doesn't have a climax nor an end, you are hoping all the time something to happen but... Nothing. And that was the point.
James Joyce Ulysses was the epic of the ordinary. Actually nothing interesting happen at all but the point is not what is happening but HOW this things are narrated, how creative he is in his writing.
What about the great gatsby? I'm not sure (long time no read) but I think it was the setting. Nowadays it seems insignificant to use elements like neon lights in a book, but if I remmember it right, this was the innovation The great Gatsby was doing. What I want to say is, Scott F. (If I remmember this whole thing right) was the first person to use modern elements in his novel.

It wasn't actually going to be called great gatby but Trimalchio in west eggTrimalchio meaning the vulgar social upstart of immense wealth in the satyricon of petronius but this didn't stick cause trimalchio wasn't what gatsby was but he is called trimalchio one in the novel then another name what fitsgerald was fond of was thrown asside and this put on it the name great gatsby he blamed for it not being a big seller at first but it eventually did get sales now great being on the cover may just being cause they for the title was better marketing but that doesn't mean great isn't suited for gatsby cause it is his got many great things about him his love for daisy is great strength and devotion his life from poor to rich is a great transformation and most and oddly lest of all his hospitality what draws him many compliments from his guest one of which could be assumed to be GREAT but as a man of soul of non material things he isnt very great everything good about gatsby all revolves around Daisey in a in a
