The short story is about a world similar to the one in Anthem. Everyone is equal and people are punished if they are more beautiful or have a skill or talent. The story opens up with a man tied to a wheelchair and has a device that plays a loud sound because that person is more intelligent than the rest. He has a wife who is normal (not beautiful or intelligent).
On the television, he sees a man (not sure if he says it was his son or looks like his son) that breaks all the rules, tells a dancer to remove her mask and weight (because she is beautiful, she wears the mask and because she is more graceful than others, she wears the weights). He takes her as a wife and tells the orchestra to play something good (the sound terrible, all have weights because they have a skill).
In the end, he is killed. The character, in the beginning, begins to cry, but after the beep of his device, he forgets why he is crying.
I really want to know what the name of this short story is - I've tried everything to find its name. Help would be greatly appreciated! I read it a few years ago.
