How would you analyze the final chapter? Or what are some takeaways from the final chapter?

It is apparent that Mr. D. felt it important to end this story filled with mental illness, anguish, and betrayal with a note of light or optimism. I know that he was a man of great faith, and I am a Christian as well as an optimist, but it felt forced to me. Write 900 pages of darkness, and then let the sun in in the last chapter? How about saving it for another book?
