Try to find a writer's group in your area. There are usually members who will Beta read. You can also check with local colleges for creative writing classes willing to Beta read. There are also several online groups:Writers Carnival, Scribofile, etc that will Beta one chapter at a time. These do require you reciprocate.

Hi Sarah! I'm willing to Beta read your novel. How long is it?
Sarah, I'd be willing to read it, too. Do you have an e-file that allows comments? Do you want grammar, plot, character -- a little of everything?

There are beta readers groups on GR..that's where I found my beta readers and I cannot praise them highly enough. This is one of them...https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Just wondered if anyone would be able to give me some advice. I've finished writing my first novel and it's been through an editing cycle. I'm now looking to get a couple of beta readers, does anyone have any tips on the best way to 'recruit' (for want of a better word)?
Do I just need to come out and ask people on places like this in Goodreads? Is there some sort of obvious way to find people? I have got a couple of friends willing to do it but I am looking to try and find people who aren't friends to try and remove any bias.
If it is just a case of asking on here, then is anyone out there willing to help me out? I am willing to reciprocate if required or assist in some way with you own writing or blog etc.
It is a Historical Fiction novel set against the backdrop of the Pendle Witch Trials of 1612 in Lancashire, England. I can send the blurb to anyone who is at least partially interested.
Thanks and have a Merry Christmas
Sarah
