So, like Kindle Unlimited, but with one book?

I've never heard of Hoopla, I'm looking into it now :)

message 354: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) No, I don't think it's available in my country.

Yea, one book per month. That’s why it wasn’t as cost effective for me in the long run. But I do enjoy audiobooks!

MountainKat | 31597 comments Here is your next task:

17. Read 4 books that are stand alones.

The book you choose can not be listed in any series on GR.

MountainKat | 31597 comments I have to jump into the audible discussion. I don't know if it works the same way in the UK, but I would think it was similar. You can join with either a monthly payment option (1 or 2 credits/month) or a flat fee for a year (12 or 24 credits/year). You can use a credit for any audiobook. You are buying the book, they are yours to keep even if you stop your membership. Being a member, you also get to purchase books at about a 30% discount - most books are more than the cost of a credit, but not all. They audiobook cost can also be further reduced with the whispersync option - if you own the Kindle edition, you can purchase the audiobook at a reduced price. It is sometimes less expensive to buy both the Kindle and audio than just the audio alone, you do have to buy the Kindle edition first though. Audible has a program similar to KU, Audible Escapes, where you borrow audiobooks and return them. There is a monthly fee for that program.

You can buy and return audiobooks for any reason, bad book or narrator or bad recording or whatever. But if you do so too often, you have to call to do so - you can't do it online. Also, remember that authors don't get paid if you return the books, so it shouldn't be used like a library.

Yes, I listen to A LOT of audiobooks... 🤷🏻‍♀️

message 358: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) I’ve looked into whisperescapes and I’m not sure whether it’s available in the Uk :(

message 359: by Ris (new)

Ris | 485 comments Oh! That's right - Audible does offer an unlimited listen to "romance and feel good stories" for a flat monthly rate with their Audible Escape! In fact, it's cheaper if you already have Kindle Unlimited! I'd say try the free monthly trial for both and see which works best for you, Amelia, if any!

message 360: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) I’ve already gotten the Audible free trial today :)

I need to figure out if Whisper Escapes is available in my country before I do anything :(

message 361: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) I don’t think it is :(

message 362: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) I don’t know why I’m saying whisper escapes when it’s audible escapes

message 363: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) However, right now I’m looking for an article that is saying “it’s not available, but you can still sign up for it”

message 364: by Ris (new)

Ris | 485 comments So, it looks like you can get around it by temporarily using the US Marketplace, instead of the U.K. Marketplace? Here’s a link describing the method. Maybe you can try it next month after you’ve gone through the Audible trial! Huh, I never realized how big a difference there was in digital content between the US and the U.K.!

I’ve had so many UK and US marketing troubles - you wouldn’t believe everything I’ve been through.

My only fear is if I use Audible Escape is how much it’ll charge. Usually when you buy stuff in another currency it’ll charge an extra £0.99. And also it’s less money when you have KU, but I only have KU in the UK marketplace.

Chris | 643 comments Amelia wrote: "However, right now I’m looking for an article that is saying “it’s not available, but you can still sign up for it”"

Maybe if you use a VPN or a proxy when you log-in?

message 367: by Ris (new)

Ris | 485 comments Or if you used a credit card that doesn’t charge an exchange fee? Idk about how to fix attaching it to your U.K. KU other than switching to a US KU? But the free trial should be no trouble!

All cards charge an exchange fee when you make purchases in a different currency. Unless there is a card connect to an account that has US dollars or it has been issued by a US bank.

Those are really cool! Do you have a site? I’d love to buy them off you if you’re selling - I’m in need of some bookmarks.

message 383: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) Oh no! That sucks! I hope you find a better place!

I’ve been a bit stressed with work. I’m being irresponsible and reading instead - I’ve gotten two books done since the one I read for this challenge :)

message 384: by Ris (new)

Ris | 485 comments Oh, no, Chris, that sucks! How hard it is to find a place (to rent, I'm assuming) in Greece? Did they say why, at least?

And I'm sorry work has been stressful, Amelia, but yay for books! What have you been reading?

I start at work on Thursday, so we'll see how that goes! For now, I'm trying to read as much as I can!

Tiki, how are you?

Ris | 485 comments And if we can complete this task by tomorrow or Friday, I'd appreciate that, since I'd have the weekend to read for the new task. My new schedule is Monday through Friday, so I'll have a little less time than I had previously to read throughout the week. (Unless I finish up all my tasks and can read at work!)

MountainKat | 31597 comments Here is Task 7:

9. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide.

Select your sub-genre and name it in your completion posts. I need to know how your book fits that sub-genre. Is the tag MPG or how many people tagged the book that sub-genre - use that as your qualification.
