April 11, 2020 through June 9, 2020
8 Week Dash For the Win!

Challenge Dates:
Signups open until April 11, 2020 at 9 PM US EDT.
Remaining Teams Assigned after signups close on April 11, 2020.
First Task Assigned April 14, 2020 at 6 PM US EDT.
Challenge Ends on June 9, 2020 at Midnight US EDT, tasks will not be accepted after this time.

Each team will work together to complete tasks. Once complete, you will be given another task to complete. After the first task, teams will be on different paths with tasks randomly assigned. The same tasks may be assigned to different teams at different times, but no task will be used more than once by the same team. Each team works at their own pace and the team that completes the most tasks at the end of 8 weeks will be the winner!

After the first task is given to everyone, when a team finishes their task they will need to report their completion in the Tracking/Q&A thread. I will confirm the completion and assign their next task. New tasks will not be assigned more frequently than every other day. I will attempt to respond quickly to confirm completion and assign new tasks, but please allow up to 24 hours. If I am unavailable, another mod will assign the task.

Each teammate will need to participate in each task, but may take a pass for one task during the course of the challenge. For some tasks, no passes will be allowed. Completions posts will need to be made when finishing each book for a task, similar to the PtP and Bachelor Challenges. A player will be removed if they make no comment for 5 days after a new task is assigned or 3 days after the rest of the team completes the task (whichever is later), despite attempts to make contact.

MountainKat | 31548 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team 12, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) Hey! Sorry I’m late! I’ve been working on a music sheet all day. I believe I’ve only met one of you, so I’d like to introduce myself.

I’m Amelia and I pretty much only ever read romance books. My favourite sub-genre is Dark Romance. Some people think I’m fucked up, but I think I’m just unique.

I work in theatre but since they are closed I have loads of free time now. The weird thing is that I seem to be reading less. I think it’s because I’m having more time to work on other things that I never got to do because school and my job was so time consuming. For example, today I finally got to work on a music sheet composition I’m supposed to be making for my friend. I only got around 45-50 bars done though, haha.

As for team names, I’m not that creative and it’s also 1:50am, so I’m pretty brain-dead right now. But, I did see that Tiki thought of some names that had a dark theme to them, so I’m guessing y’all are into that stuff too. Anyways, you’re probably sick of me rambling on now. I’ll have a quick brainstorm tonight and tomorrow morning and see if I can come up with anything that I think would be good.

Also, I’m British (GMT).

And out of the names you have thought of so far I like Dark Luvers and Grime Reapers. Maybe Dark Reaper? Or Grim? Wait...I actually really like Grim Reapers.

Ris | 485 comments Hey, y'all~

I'm in Northeast Ohio, so Eastern Standard Time is what I follow. I'm a librarian, but libraries are closed at the moment and I'm working from home, so I have a lot more free time to read!

I've read a couple of Dark Romances this past year because I love romance and I was curious: the ones I've loved, I have absolutely loved (those tended to be forbidden-romance types, I think); and the ones I haven't, have been interesting from a psychological point of view.

Other genres I enjoy are contemporary (including new adult & romantic comedy), historical, and paranormal/fantasy romances, and prefer my romances spicier than not.

Some other name suggestions are:
Racing Hearts
Chasing Demons

Can't wait to start so I actually have a valid excuse to binge read!

message 14: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) Ooh! I like Chasing Demons!

message 15: by Chris (new)

Chris | 643 comments Hello Chris! Hello Amelia!

I read almost everything depending on the mood. paranormal, historical, dark, new adult, murder, mystery, thrillers etc. Just I don't want any crappy endings atm.

I like Chasing Demons too and Grim Rippers!

message 16: by Tiki (new)

Tiki | 489 comments Okay between Chasing Demons and Grim Rippers, vote!!

message 17: by Tiki (new)

Tiki | 489 comments Im Grim Reapers

We also need to vote for leader??

message 18: by Tiki (new)

Tiki | 489 comments So we have 2 Eastern Americans and 2 Europens, this is going to be a fun group.. Also those like dark romance y'all should check out The Life of Anna The Complete Story by Marissa Honeycutt by: Marissa Honeycutt and Deadly Captive The Trilogy by Bianca Sommerland by: Bianca Sommerland these 2 series are extremly dark with paranormal as well. These have allot dub-con/rape/ and violence

message 19: by Tiki (new)

Tiki | 489 comments Oh also need a list off hard limits on read, so when we vote to read a certain genre we don't wonder into the wrong area for everyone.

Me Fem Domm, f/f only, and must be romance.

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) Is it Grim Rippers or Reapers? I like that one more than Chasing Demons. I think it suits us more.

message 22: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) Also, I don’t mind being team leader. I’m on my computer a lot now, so I’ll always be online to check things etc etc. I don’t really mind though, because as MountainKat stated, anyone can submit completions.

message 23: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) The task I’m most concerned about is the ~ 1000 Pages with Mystery or Suspense as MPG. This is because not many of us are into those genres much. If anything I think we should pass on this one.

message 24: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) And also for the ~ NOT MPG romance, can’t we get away with Erotica?

message 25: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) I remember trying to read The Life of Anna, Tiki. It was just after or around when I got KU and I never knew anything about Dark Romance. I remember being a bit creeped out so I put it down, then weirdly enough I read another book that was even more fucked up. I have been meaning to read it again though, just never got round to doing it.

we maybe able to get by with this, with other areas?? I will read them myself if it has romance in it. if anything we can we will find a way around this. Amelia I'm game, if anything we can work hand in hand together. since most times we work oppist times together on here

Grim Reapers

message 31: by Tiki (new)

Tiki | 489 comments Amelia wrote: "And also for the ~ NOT MPG romance, can’t we get away with Erotica?"

there's some dark reads that aren't romance maybe??

message 32: by Ris (last edited Apr 07, 2020 11:40AM) (new)

Ris | 485 comments I'm fine with Grim Reapers as our team name!

I think Erotica is considered Romance (at least, I always considered it that)? Since I'm not sure we can pass as a group, there are a couple of suspense books I've had my eye on, that I can hold off on reading those until/if that task gets called. Same with Historical and/or Fantasy/Sci-Fi for a non-MPG genre.

And I don't have any absolute hard limits (I have also just started reading darker romances, if they were tagged correctly), but I don't really enjoy novels where every sexual experience is rape. It doesn't look like there are many instances where we have to read some of the same (the ones they have are so far are same: sub-genre, author, publication month, trope, profession, country, location, letter, cover color) so it shouldn't be a problem? We can also try and decide on those things now so we can just start reading if those come up. However, if that is a problem, though, let me know and I can sub out and find a new group? Just let me know!

nope, we can work with everything!!

message 34: by Tiki (new)

Tiki | 489 comments so team name Grim Reapers?

message 35: by Chris (new)

Chris | 643 comments For Mystery J.D. Robb and "In Death" series count?

message 36: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) By hard limits, you mean stuff I don’t want to read or stuff that triggers me?

Also, I’ve never actually known the full wording for MPG. I’m sure it’s something like Main Genre. Do any of you know?

message 37: by Ris (new)

Ris | 485 comments @Chris, J.D. Robb’s “In Death” series should work for 15 and/or 31, since it is both written by an author who goes by two names and MPG Mystery and Suspense!

message 38: by Chris (new)

Chris | 643 comments Amelia wrote: "

I was just googling that!

message 39: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) It comes up with Miles Per Gallon -

message 40: by Ris (new)

Ris | 485 comments Main Page Genre, haha. It’s the tags you see on Goodreads to the right of the précis (or very bottom if you’re in the app).

message 41: by Chris (new)

Chris | 643 comments they are nice series. I read the first book ages ago and I have the next two laying around but haven't get my hands on them yet.

message 42: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) Wait...now I’m confused. I’ve re-read the rules and I’m lost. When it says “Each teammate needs to complete the task,” it doesn’t mean by themselves, right?

message 43: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) Now that I think about it I might have a suspense or mystery series-

message 44: by Chris (new)

Chris | 643 comments Nora Roberts has several books under the Mystery genre. Ann Stuart may have few ,but not sure. The one I'm re-reading is labeled as erotic thriller by the publisher but it's a soft read.

message 45: by Ris (new)

Ris | 485 comments @Amelia, we work together to complete the tasks as a team. So if it’s read four books, each of us would read a book; 1000 pages, each of us would read about 250 pages (give or take depending on what we’re reading). There’s only one pass for the eight weeks, in which case I think someone would just read another book or another 250 pages so we can still complete the task? Not entirely sure how the pass works in terms of team completion.

message 46: by Milly (new)

Milly (purpleglitterypinecone) That’s what I originally thought, but when I was reading them again I thought I might’ve not read them properly haha.
